Synchrony in menstrual cycles is believed to be caused by some sort of scent cue, or pheromone. Pheromones are airborne chemical signals produced by the glands in the skin. In animals, pheromones communicate information about sex and reproduction. Some skeptics, however, believe synchronous menstruation to be an anomaly and mere coincidence, however.
