Q: Pregnancy Symptoms But Having Periods

Hello. I have been having some pregnancy symptoms (increased appetite, frequent urination, breast tenderness, nausea) so I took a pregnancy test and it came back negative. Couple weeks later I got my period then I stopped worrying. But the symptoms were still there. So I took another pregnancy test about a month later. It came back negative yet again. And again, I got my period. Now in December, I'm on my period right now (although it's been really short this time), and I'm still having these symptoms. I've had people tell me it's just stress (the holidays are just around the corner, plus with school...). But I've been reading how many women get negative HPT because of low hCG levels. Could this be true for me? Or is it possible I'm not pregnant since I'm having my periods? Can anyone offer some information or advice? That would help me greatly and it would get a load off my mind. Thank you so much! Smile

Pregnancy symptoms are not always signs of pregnancy. It does sound like you are under a lot of stress and have a lot to do, so this wears you out and spikes your symptoms of PMS.

You've had three periods, so I don't think it's at all possible that you are pregnant. Just try to take it a little easier on yourself. Don't let other people run your life with little things and put your priorities first and leave the rest. This is your life and your health and the more you let people and things take control, the less you have and the harder it is to get it back. Most people will understand if you tell them that you can't do any more and need a break. You can only do so much.

Good luck.

Thank you. That makes me feel better. But for some reason, I just can't get this whole pregnancy thing out of my head. I'll try to take it easy and relax. Thank you so much for the advice!

ah yes. I've had women tell me these stories as well. This is the only part I'm worried about. I'm worried I'm one of these women where they continually get their periods, take negative pregnancy tests, yet they are pregnant. I know that this is a very low chance, but I can't get it out of my head.

It's been at least 3 months since you first started experiencing what you are concerned may be pregnancy sysptoms. That means that if you were pregnant, you'd be at least 3 months pregnant. If you were 3 or more months pregnant, you'd be able to feel your uterus enlargement by now pressing on your lower abdomen when lying down. At that point I remember it feeling about grapefruit size.

Oops, I left out a word. I meant you'd be able to feel your uterus enlargement by now BY pressing on your lower abdomen when lying down. It sounded like I said you'd feel the uterus pressing on your abdomen

Are you trying to get pregnant? Or are you not wishing for pregnancy?

If it is the first, good luck. If it is the latter, birth control works wonders for preventing pregnancy and lightening your periods. It is fabulous at making you like clockwork too.

I really can't have a baby right now. It's just not the right time. I'm thinking about waiting a couple years before children.

Yes, I am going to Planned Parenthood in January (when I move back to the city) so I can get on some kind of birth control so it will ease my mind and prevent this sort of thing from happening again.

Anyone have any advice about which birth control works better or doesn't work? Like or don't like? I would appreciate your input.

I'm not really worried about the past 2 or 3 months anymore. The last pregnancy test I took was on December 2, which came back negative. I'm pretty sure that one would've come back positive especially since it had been 2-3 months for the hCG to increase. The only time I'm worried about now was when we had sex (with condoms) during my ovulation week, the last week in November. We always tried to abstain during my ovulation week since it was the riskiest, but we made a mistake and did it anyway. My period started December 13, so that makes me feel better that I'm not pregnant. Even better, my symptoms are beginning to go away. My breasts are not tender anymore, I'm not hungry as much, and I'm not going to bathroom as much. However, my nausea has increased. It's terrible, I hate this feeling. I'm thinking it's nausea could be related to stress. I get like this at every year at the end of year (holiday stress, like mazdaluv pointed out). And I'm planning on taking one more pregnancy test at the end of year. If it comes back negative, I really just have to get over it and realize I'm not pregnant. But anyway, I want to thank you all for your information and advice you have given to me. I appreciate it. Smile

I just took another pregnancy test yesterday. It came back negative. I had my period last week and now this negative pregnancy test. I'm pretty sure I'm not pregnant. I've gotta stop thinking about this. This is driving me insane and I'm starting to make myself physically sick.

Just as soon as I start feeling better about this, someone tells me how they've had their periods while they're pregnant.

Being abstinent again is starting to sound better and better.

I know. I just have to keep telling myself that. I'm neurotic like that. I'm stressed out (I hate the holidays) and I have a doctor's appointment in a couple days. ARGH. Blah....
