I am an 82 year old fairly healthy women. I have been experiencing pain in the right flank for approximately three weeks. I lost my left kidney approx 57 years ago to Hydronephrosis. I have been through many tests.
Ultrasound, CAT Scan, Nuclear Laser Dye, MRI, Blood work up and all have come back negative. The doctor said I do have Hydronephrosis in this kidney. I do not have blood in my urine. No pain urinating. I had this same pain in 2001 and was told to stop my Cholestral medication which I did and the pain went away? Now I am thinking that was just coincidence. In the last year or so I have lost 30 pounds. I take 100mg Sythroid Thyroid medications and thought maybe the weight loss was connected to this. On a scale of 1 to 10 the pain can be approx. 3 and then a few hours later a 10. Some days are better than others. If I have a blockage why is it not showing up? I am worried the longer this goes on the more damage will be done to my only kidney.

Hi

Has your doctor done a cystoscopy/retrograde?
The doctor will look into your bladder with a scope and then put dye and take X-rays while doing this to find out if and were there is a blockage.

Do you notice more pain when you increase your fluids?

Just an update. It was an infection giving me all the pain. They gave me antibiotics and put in a stent. It will be removed in 4 to 6 weeks. I have a different kind of pain now. I hoping it's just from the stent. The pain in my side is now gone.

Glad to hear you are more comfortable.
Stents are painful, I've had many myself.
Take Care
