Hi,
i did have alot of bloating and that was
one of the symtoms that lead to the
discovery of a large fibroid (the size of
a 12-14 week baby head). I"m six week
post-op and feel really great without my
"budda belly". I took gas-x and stayed
away from those foods that make you feel
bloated. Surgery is what made the
difference. My wonderful doctor found
one large fibroid and two other fibroids
behind it. Yikes! My annual exam
alerted my doctor and I had an ultra
sounds done. I did not wait because of
the rapid growth this fibroid was growing
at. (doubled in six months and no cancer
was found).
I wish you peace in your decision to have
surgery.

Thanks becky for writing back....At least
I know I am not going crazy with this
bloating. I had a baby 11 months ago and
it looks like I am pregnant again.....I
hate it....Besides ovulation has become so
painful and I get uti's often....I have
decided to schedule the hysterectomy as
soon as possible...Thank you for your
support...Sue

Hi sue,
wow, I read your reply and thought your
systems were what I had. Most of my
problems (4 yrs worth) were related to
frequent uti's. I had seven in one year.
I was diagnosed finally in 2003 with
cystitis. Pills (elimoron) were the cure
for over a year. I still had a few
uti's in last year, but far fewer than
what I had indured for years.
The fibroid (which was growing and moving
downward in the lower right part of my
cervix) had attached itself to my colon.
Adhesions had formed and most of my pain
was from those nasty things and the
fribroid pushing on my insides. Now
after surgery, I have no pain and my
stomach is flat, and my doctor tightend my
belly button as well from the initially
lap surgery. I have no regrets about the
surgery. It has given my back the
quality of life I had hoped for. I'm on
a vaginal hormonal ring and haven't had
problems with mood swings or night sweats
like I had before.
Take care sue and let me know how you are
doing.

I too had one huge fibriod ( 1.6 lbs) and
a small one along with a huge mass of
blood vessels on my uterus. Totalling of
almost 5 lbs. I got huge. Water
retention and bloating. Went from 115
lbs to 145 lbs in 2 months. I didnt to
have mine. After ct scans, ultrasound
and 2 mri's he told me that there was no
if and's or buts that it has to come out.
I was bleeding alot with alot of pain.
Became anemic. Im glad I done it, but
im 6 weeks post op and still have alot of
swelling and pain. I do normal things
just not alot of lifting.
Still wearing stretchy pants with elastic,
hate them. Tried wearing jeans today and
thought I was gonna die from the
irritation.

Fibroid Tumors Posted: 06-19-04 15:36pm
Hi, I live in the midwest (st. Louis, mo)
area, and I was told that the only thing
that could help me was a hysterectomy. My
biggest complaint was heavy bleeding, and
severe anemia. I did some reasearch on
the internet, and found this procedure
called uterine fibroid embolization that
would leave my uterus and ovaries in
place.
I found an interventional radiologist in
the area, and he told me after an mri,
that I was an excellent candiate. I am
very happy with the results. I used to
bleed quite heavily for up to 25 days a
month. Now, my period is no more than 5
days, with only one or two days being a
moderately heavy flow. But, nothing like
it used to be.
Your gynecologist will not tell you about
this procedure, since it takes $$ out of
his or her pocket. Your gyn may try to
scare you out of this procedure. Mine
did, and I had to fire him.
For me, I wanted to hang on to my
uterus/ovaries as long as possible, since
I am high risk for heart disease and type
2 diabetes. I think that this procedure
was a god-send for me, since I recovered
in less than 1 wk. I hope this can serve
as an alternative to others who are
reluctant to get a hysterectomy.

I Need Inforation On Resectoscope, Has Anyone One Had That? Posted: 09-22-04 22:02pm
Hi
i have been avoiding going into the
hospital. But my Dr. Said to me that
they are not getting smaller. He stopped
the bleeding but I am so bloated all the
time. I did not realize that this is
what is doing this. It was so good to
read all of your responses. So, after I
have the surgery, the bloating will stop.
He said he can do a resectosceope. Has
any one done that? He told me that he
will remove all the fiborids and the
uterous through the scope. I think I
would like to keep everything else so that
nature can take its course. But I have
been reading that having sex is not the
same.
Is that true?
Plus I have never been in a hospital so to
tell you I am scared is an understatement
thanks for your help in advance

I'm Looking Into Halt Posted: 11-23-04 14:54pm
You might consider checking out a new
procedure called halt. You can keep your
uterus, treat all of your fibroids and
bounce back rather quickly. It can treat
all fibroids and doesn't use radiation
(like ufe/uae), doesn't cut off the blood
supply to your uterus, no overnight
hospital stay (it's an outpatient
procedure), little or no pain management
and as little as a 3 day recovery. You
can keep your uterus and ovaries!!
Halt is done by an obgyn- not a
interventional radiologist (lie ufe/uae).
I don't think that I could trust someone
who doesn't specialize in treating women's
reproductive organs.
Two very small incisions are made. One
for a laparoscope, another for a narrow
needle that deploys ultrasound to shrink
the fibroid. The fibroids don't come
back.
For more info about the procedure, check
out www.Haltfibroids.Com.
I'm seriously considering this as my
option and have been looking for solutions
for a long time.
Take care!
