I'm Not Crazy After All!

So about three months ago I got a new laptop. It's a Sony VAIO, and I've loved it to death since the day I got it. Whenever I have papers or type on it for a long time (*ahem* ehealthing it up), I feel burning sensations in my wrists. After awhile I started complaining to Lance about it saying I thought I was getting shocked. He never uses my computer though except to check movie times or something, but never for any length of time. So of course he thought I was crazy as usual, and he told me for sure Sony wouldn't sell a popular laptop that all the little girls will want to buy (it comes in black, red, white, and pink) that freaking shocks people when they use it. He had me convinced: I was crazy.

Just now I finally had enough of the stinging and him doubting me, so I looked it up and it turns out the freaking laptop IS shocking me! Someone even took pictures of the electrical shocks it sends from the silver metal strip around the edge of the keyboard (right where your wrists rests)! Is that crazy or what! So I paid $1299 for a really stylish shock treatment.

I told Lance in between songs (he was playing freaking rockband... boys and their video games Rolling Eyes) and he's like, "Well at least it has a cool fingerprint scanner to make up for it." Umm, what? I just don't understand boys.

So like, what if turn out to be pregnant some how? Isn't electrical shocks damaging to a developing fetus? Can't it cause like spontaneous miscarriage? I hate sony!!! Mad

Does yours have a fingerprint scanner and only two prongs on the power cord that you plug into the wall? If so then I think you have the unit that sends electrical shocks as well. I read that you should contact sony and have them mail you a replacement power cord for free.

I think you have the model that came out right before this one did, then. I would look it up online though to make sure. I read that the reason it does it has to do with the power cord, and it needs to be switched out for one that has a grounder prong. I only use my laptop when its plugged into the wall, and still I can only notice getting shocked like maybe once or twice after being on the computer for over an hour or so. I don't feel it constantly. I thought at first the little hairs on my arms were getting pulled by the computer somehow. That's what it feels like.

Mine is actually in an extension cord as well.

I just googled sony vaio electrical shock and a lot of stuff came up. It seems that the problem occurs on more than just one model. Look at the top left hand corner of your lid right above your screen. It should have your model number. Mine is a VGN-CR123E. I'm pretty sure yours is part of the CR series too, but a different version.

Yea I know it's crazy! It's not on recall though, I guess it's not enough of a voltage or something. I know I read something about in 2003 them recalling some of the vaio's because it sent out shocks when it was connected to a phone line and the phone rang, but not for this.

And as for the pregnancy thing, I couldn't wait anymore (as always) and took a test and of course it was negative. I guess I don't have anything to worry about as far as pregnancy goes with this shock, but still! It's not exactly comfortable.
