Q: Hepatitis C after tattoo or pancreatitis ?

I am one of those old skool former wild childs that got a tattoo when I turned 16...which was like 20 yrs ago.
Obviously there were no sterilization laws in order for tattoo shops back then and alot of people with old tattoos have turned up with HepC.
How often does this happen? What are the signs/symptoms I could look for?
Ive noticed ALOT of pain in my right side that has been on and off for years now. Once they thought it was pancreatitis, but now im skeptical that it may be my liver this whole time instead.

Once you have contracted Hep C, you will have it the rest of your life.....it may lie dormant, but you can not just GET RID OF IT. sure those treatments, the shots every week abd the handfull of pills to swallow are a pain, but its worth it to get your viral load down. Sometimes symptoms take years before they appear. I realize this post if OLD....Dec 07, but wanted to clear it up you don't get rid of hep C...Its also something once you have it, you need ot tell oyur doctors, dentist, anyone who will come into contact with your blood. Don't allow family/friends to share your tooth brush, razors, nail clippers, any personal item that you may cut yourself. A blood test checking for Hep C is all you need to find out if by chance you came into contact with it. Are you using an antibiotic cream on your tattoo?

I got retested and the results came back negative for Hepatitis C, I think the doctor lied to me on purpose.

I'm confused....
NightStar, you said up above that you have Hep C. THen you wrote you got retested and the results came back negative. WHy would a doctor like about something like this. What makes you think you indeed have Hep C? Unless you have your test results and know your viral load count, you will also probably need ot have aliver biopsy to know hte extent of the damage. If you do have this, PLEASE, see a gastro physican and get started on treatments...and by all means take evbery precautionary measure to ensure you do not give htis to someone else. I have read so many things on this site aboutpeople wiht Hep C having unprotected sex, with opensores and what not.....Please be responsible! Keep me posted!

Sounds about right to me. If you've gone to a reputable tattoo shop, you'd have been advised to keep neosporin or polysporin (can't remember which one) on the new tattoo for a few days. Then you keep a good moistuizer on it. Your probably just paranoid! Happens to the best of us!
