Q: Viagra Dosage - Unable to Maintain a Strong Erection
asked by: DoctorQuestion on December 13th, 2007
Hi, Im a fit 39 year old but for over two years now have not been able to maintain a strong erection. My and my girlfriend have tried penis rings and a relaxed/non-pressured approach but my penis always lets me down (so to speak). I might penetrate her but within a minute it goes semi soft and renders full sex useless!

Today I talked my female doctor into prescribing my some Viagra.
She didnt give me any tips of when to take it or how much. Maybe it was because she was embarrassed, I dont know.

I later collected my prescription from the chemist and she's only allowed me 4 x 25mg tablets! I thought that one had to take at least 50mg for them to work effectively.

What is the normal required dose, can I get away with 25mg? Im a little nervous about trying it with my girlfriend...what if these dont work?

Please give my some tips and hints as I am worried and also feel I am a little young to be on viagra. What of the future?

Thanks
Tango

As with all prescription drugs, the proper dosage is recommended at the discretion of a licensed medical doctor. The recommended dose of Viagra (sildenafil) is 25 mg to 100 mg taken once per day between 30 minutes and 4 hours prior to sexual intercourse. It is usually recommended to start with a dosage of 50 mg and then lower or raise the dosage as appropriate.

Viagra increases the flow of blood to the penis and causes a harder erection. It is efficient for men (usually older) who are experiencing atherosclerotic changes in their blood vessels. 39 years of age is not considering very old by medical standards but it is not young, either. You can consult a urologist about your condition if Viagra doesn’t help.
