My son has had a severe stabbing pressure type of head pain located on the left side of his forehead for nine months. The pain never leaves it is present 24 hours per day. The pain is so intense he screams, cries and shakes without pain medication. We have had many tests and do not have a diagnosis. If he takes pain medication the pain will subside for a few hours, prior to needing more medication the onset of aura with stripes, bubbles, dots and zig zags appear. He will then start vomiting as the pain becomes the most horrific pain he has ever felt. He has had migraines on the right side of his head off and on over the years but they were a pulsating pain and migraine medication helped.

Poor you DeeanaO! And poor son of course.
I do not know the age of your son and I can only imagine how much it breaks your heart. I do know pain he is feeling as I get those types of migraines too.
I'm not a doctor, but I certainly 'feel' for you folks. Are you making sure he's not getting caffeine? Gotta stay away from that. I also found that peanuts trigger the headaches. Must avoid that too. The other things I have been able to associate are cheese, coffee, cola, coco, all things chocolate. Stress is bad too, I dunno if he is a teenager if so I know (remember) how tough that was (peer pressure, good grades etc...). This is only my opinion Deanna but drugs may help temporarily but are probably not a cure. Maybe changes in lifestyle, diet could help better.

I will pray for you and your son. May God bless you!

Extremely eHealthy
Deeno, has your son gone to see a neurologist. Has he had a CT scan? Anyone who has migraines should get a least one CT scan to rule out other reasons for the headaches. My heart goes out to your son. This is no way to live. If the neurologist can not help go to a pain specialist. Sometimes antihistamines can provide some relief from migraines. Anticonvulsants are also used to treat migraines. A neurologist should be able to offer some guidance. Best to you and your son.

Occipital Neuralgia
Ummm hi im 15 years old and im no doctor, but i have most of what symptoms your son has. Along with light sensitivity and sometimes my headaches can be triggered by looking at snow when its sunny outside. I just now felt like i should see myself through research on the internet best describes my diagnosis because i haven't seen a doctor yet, even though i should have probably done this 2 years ago when they started. My headaches aren't that constant i have about one a day, and they vary i mean sometimes the pain is so sharp i cant even think. But it sounds to me that your son has Occipital Neuralgia, what i think i have. Some of the symptoms include throbbing / stabbing pain in the neck and or head, light sensitivity. but this isnt like a life threatning thing just very annoying i mean try writing a science exam when you have one of these things, well i really hope your son feels better Smile also i read that massage and rest can help Occipital Neuralgia if that is what your son has.
