on desogen since May ~ having light spotting ~ pregnant?
Posted: 12-12-07 11:50am

I am on birth control and just started the last week (blanks). The weird part is that I had some light spotting for about 2 days last week, and again this morning. I shouldn't start any of that until about friday or saturday, and it is really light. The strange part is that my breasts are way more sensitive than normal, and began to hurt way too early. Amoung other things I have been very light headed, and had a sick stumach quite often for about a week now. I have been on the pill (desogen) since May, and had no side effects. My mother conceived 2 of 3 children while on birth control. Is the spotting in this pattern consistent with early pregnancy...or does it rule out the chances. Thank you.

You very much so could be pregnant, it happens a lot. That's why a lot of people on the pill still wear condoms also.

It could also just be spotting from the pill. I get that sometimes but I've only been on it for 2 months.

My suggestion is if you think it's pregnancy take a test

I plan to take a test...but am trying to figure out the time frame, so that I won't take it too early. I would be starting my regular period on Friday or Saturday, but had the spotting last week, and again this morning, and it is not at all like a regular period. I generally get very noticable cramps, and there are none right now. Also the spotting last week was a pinkish spotting that only lasted for 2 days, and was only really noticable when I would wipe. And this morning it is brownish in color, and barely noticable as well.

Spotting is really common with the pill. It is called break thru bleeding and can happen at any time in your cycle. Brown blood is blood that has been sitting around for awhile (old), red blood is fresh.

You can take a pregnancy test with your first morning urine on the first day of your 'missed' period. So whatever day you are starting your placebo pills.

As for all the cravings and the other symptoms you feel you have been experiencing, I don't think they are related to pregnancy. If you have enough pregnancy hormones in your system to cause pregnancy symptoms, you would also have enough hormones in your system to make a pregnancy test POSITIVE (if you were, in fact, pregnant). It is too early for that.

Good luck.

Okay, here's another question. My breasts are starting to poof out of my bra's. So, the question is, could this have happened that long ago, and how long does it take for that to happen. I doubt that they are still growing, because I am nearly 21 years old......I know that there can be bleeding all the way through a pregnancy, but that it is not actually your period. How would it have been before that would happen?

How long have you been on birth control? Have you recently changed your birth control?

When a woman gets pregnant, they generally ovulate mid cycle (not for everyone), at that point it takes 10-14 days BEFORE a pregnancy test can pick up the hormones. This would put that timing at or around when their period would be due. You have had multiple symptoms that could all be related to other things and wouldn't necessarily mean pregnancy.

I think I was around 8 weeks pregnant before my breasts started getting bigger. However, any pregnant woman will tell you, FULL breasts are not the first breast symtpom you get. The first breast symptom you get is HURT and OUCH! Smile

I have been on the same type of birth control for 8 months. I have not changed it. My breasts started to hurt about a week to two weeks ago, and it's now bad enough that I can't even sleep unless I lay on my back. I have just noticed that my breasts are starting to feel very firm, and are bigger.

Also, is it more likely that birth control would not work for me if it did not work for my mother? Genetics or something?

Dear, if you have so many symptoms, a pregnancy test would be the prudent thing to do. This many symptoms would cause it to fire up positive IMMEDIATELY. Take a test - if it is negative, stop worrying.
