Back in Nov-06 I came down with what I
thought was the flu. Severe migraines,
nausea, dizziness, stiff neck, light
fever, and because it was before
Thanksgiving, I decided to wait till
Monday to see the Dr. The family Dr
thought it was a cold/flu, and
basically...over the course of the next
few months when it didn't clear up I had
different tests taken which didn't show
anything. I was still having hellacious
headaches, personality changes, bizarre
thoughts, a surreal feeling, etc, till
finally I saw a neurologist who said that
I likely had meningitits and encephalitis
and I was now in recovery mode from it.
Its now been a year, and Im still having
some of the same headaches, facial
flushing, anxiety, gloom-doom crud popping
up. Im eating right, getting plenty of
sleep, exercise daily, and I take no
medicine except for a daily Sr vitamin.
Is it possible that these symptoms are all
panic attacks as a spin off of the
menin/enceph problem?
(1) facial flushing
(2) dark, gloom-doom feelings
(3) dizziness
(4) migraines
(5) eye vision problems
If so, will it fade over time, or am I
looking at a long term physical ailment? I
worked part time once I was finally
diagnosed with the menin/enceph, but Ive
been able to slowly work back to full time
status which I am now.
What freaks me out is that I can wake up
in the morning and Im literally shaking
and anxious for no apparent reason.
Any thoughts? Anyone else out there have
viral meningitis or encephalitis and care
to share how you're doing now?
Thanks!

I came across this excellent site and I
thought I would pass it along to others
who are either going through meningitis or
encephalitis, or, has a friend/family
member going through it. I just wish my
dr would have steered me to this site a
year ago... it would have saved me quite a
bit of grief in knowing what was normal
and abnormal for recovery, etc.

Hello,
in July 2006 I was bit by a Viral Tic in
Germany on our honeymoon, and I suffered
Viral Inflammation of the Brain, Lining of
the Brain, and Spinal Cord.
I also had crazy symptomes!
facial flushing
dark and negative emotions
depression
doom feelings & feeling jumpy
dizziness - getting up, walking too fast,
tilting my head, etc.
SEVERE migraines
Eye vision problems, travelling dots
Nausea & vomitting from head pain
Stiffness and muslce spasms - I iced,
stretched, & saw a massage therapist
Memory Loss which is coming back
Felt like I was in a dream,
disassociation
I also tak a Multi Vitamin/Mineral daily
and eat very well. Drink lots of water and
keep exercising in moderation. Too much
exercise might cause your brain to
pound/throb. Breathe in fresh air daily!
Stretch!! Stretch your neck muscles - if
you want to learn the best neck stretches,
see a Phisiotherapist.
It gets better! It's been 1 1/2 years for
me and I finally feel like eventually I'll
heal fully. Don't give up! We're lucky to
be alive you know. The Nurses told me that
most people that suffer the Viral Brain
Infection we did, end up dead or like a
vegetable, or with permanent speach or
language or memory retrieval damage!
You're doing great!

Thanks for responding! While Id never
wish anyone else to go through what Ive
been experiencing, its encouraging to hear
that my symptoms are common for the
meningitis/encephalitis sufferer.
People just dont realize the daily hell
that we often encounter from this
condition. Most people instead want to
simply think that we're hypcondriacts, or
whiners who have headaches. Its quite a
bit more then that as you know.
All of those symptoms you mentioned Ive
had repeatedly and its scarey. On good
days when I feel good, I feel like Im back
to normal. On bad days, or during bad
cycles, I feel like Im going to die, and
its terrifying. But as has been the case,
the good slowly changes back to good, and
the fight continues on.
This has been a long haul (16 months and
counting), made longer by the original
knee injury I occurred, 3 yrs ago. So to
say that health concerns have been on my
"mind" for the past 3 yrs is an
understatement. Its only through the
grace of God and the support of my loving
family that Ive been able to continue on.
I wish you a speedy recovery, and thanks
again for instilling more confidence in me
that I will get healthy again!
