Greetings,

Back in Nov-06 I came down with what I thought was the flu. Severe migraines, nausea, dizziness, stiff neck, light fever, and because it was before Thanksgiving, I decided to wait till Monday to see the Dr. The family Dr thought it was a cold/flu, and basically...over the course of the next few months when it didn't clear up I had different tests taken which didn't show anything. I was still having hellacious headaches, personality changes, bizarre thoughts, a surreal feeling, etc, till finally I saw a neurologist who said that I likely had meningitits and encephalitis and I was now in recovery mode from it.

Its now been a year, and Im still having some of the same headaches, facial flushing, anxiety, gloom-doom crud popping up. Im eating right, getting plenty of sleep, exercise daily, and I take no medicine except for a daily Sr vitamin.

Is it possible that these symptoms are all panic attacks as a spin off of the menin/enceph problem?
(1) facial flushing
(2) dark, gloom-doom feelings
(3) dizziness
(4) migraines
(5) eye vision problems

If so, will it fade over time, or am I looking at a long term physical ailment? I worked part time once I was finally diagnosed with the menin/enceph, but Ive been able to slowly work back to full time status which I am now.

What freaks me out is that I can wake up in the morning and Im literally shaking and anxious for no apparent reason.

Any thoughts? Anyone else out there have viral meningitis or encephalitis and care to share how you're doing now?

Thanks!

Hi there. I have been experiencing very similar symptoms to what you describe. This started in July 2007 with awful head pains, nausea, trembling, sore muscles, and light fever. I was diagnosed with a sinus infection and given antibiotics. I was better for a week or two, but then the symptoms returned. Other symptoms included extreme fatigue and migraine-like symptoms (vision problems and headache). I saw many doctors and had many tests run, which revealed nothing. It has now been several months since I've felt any really terrible head or neck pains, but I continue to feel headachey and nauseous quite often, as well as dizzy, tired, and depressed. It's been six months since this all started.

My neurologist said I could have had viral meningitis, but highly doubted it. From reading forums like this, however, I am becoming convinced that this is what I've had. I find myself asking the same questions you are asking, whether this will ever go away completely. It has been a difficult six months, physically and emotionally.

I wish you the best.
