Pain In My Lower Right Side after sneeze Posted: 12-11-07 20:06pm
I am 66 year old male, pretty active, and
while in line at the post office, I
quickly sneezed (a big one). While
inhaling for the sneeze, I bent over as
not to sneeze on everyone and it felt like
someone jabbed me with a long knife in my
side under my rib cage. I could hardly
take a breath. I regained my cool in a
few moments, and moved slowly outside, and
slowly to my car. That night, I had
difficulty moving without the stabbing
pain. I had to sleep in a chair with
pillows. 1 week later, the pain has
subsided alot, and it's pretty much
business as normal, with still tenderness
internally using external pressure in the
area. Can a sneeze do that? I guess it
can, but what was it that caused the pain,
and where does the pain come from? Should
I have it checked out?

Sounds like you pulled a muscle, or maybe
even pinched a nerve. Inhaling deeply can
also tear ligaments between the ribs, or
even break a rib itself. I broke a rib
last February from coughing. The pain is
very extreme.
If the pain was severe and did not subside
than you should see a doctor.
I wouldn't worry too much though.
