Hi, I am new and have a question/concern. I recently was told I had an enlarged uterus (by pelvic exam) size to 16week preg. (no i'm not pregnant!) had ct of pelvic and abdominal done this week but wont know results till mon. After last months period I had bad pains in lower abdominal region both sides. Just finished this period and same feeling is back only on left side. Sharp pain that is more or less constant and worse when coughing. Also getting stabbing pain in back on right at about same level on my body. Does anyone have a clue what this could be? I (and dr) dont think could be ovulation since it happens right after end of bleeding, not half way or so between periods. Thanx

My only idea is that it could be fibroids. Now don't be alarmed because it it's not neccesarily a red flag for cancer or anything, but they can cause the uterus to englarge. Here is a little background for you on it: Womens-health.Co.Uk/fibroids.Htm.

Other than that I have no other suggestions, but good luck!

Thanx for the input... I actually did find out what it was - sorta. I had to go for an ultrasound late last fri and my dr appoint was mon. They did find I have 2 cysts on the left and 1 on the right.... I have an appoint with a surgeon this fri for another problem... I think this problem will be addressed too. I thiink the drs are planning to remove some of the "female organs". That will probably be done next week. Pain is not nearly as bad now, but I still feel the "lump" on the left. Wish me luck.

My mom had something similar.. She developed a huge cyst on one of her ovaries. She had the cyst and the ovary removed and has had no problems since. Good luck with everthing!

Do they know what is causing your cysts? Have they checked you for endometriosis?

I dont know for sure if they checked for endo.. How do they check for that anyway?? I was at the surgeon's this afternoon about my hiatal hernia and acid and the guy never even mentioned the "female" problem till I brought it up.. I guess he was just going to look around and see if there was anything there... Really did not seem to care much about that problem.. To heck with the fact that it is starting to be noticable again and when it first starts hurting I cant hardly walk or cough... Pap came back okay. So I guess I will just learn to live with more pain, just in another part of me. I have to go for some more tests for the acid problem and depending on what they find, I might just nix the whole idea. I was hoping they could do something for my paralysed diaphragm, but I guess that is something they can't do anything for. I will just tell the gal when I talk to her in about 3 weeks to forget the whole thing and if the pains in my side get worse again, just go to the er. Maybe they will get something done --- although the last time I was there they did nothing for me...

Sorry to rant here, but I came away from this afternoon's appointment with the feeling it was a major waste of time. Just like almost every dr appointment I have had in the past 6 months for a neck/shoulder/arm problem.

To check if you have endro they have to do laproscopic surgery. Basically they put a little camera in through your belly button. It is a very serious disease that gets overlooked most of the time. It is probably worth looking into. Doctors suck sometimes, I will definately agree.
They think I have endo, but I have not had the "surgery" to make sure. Mainly because # 1 I do not have health insurance and # 2 they usually "cut it out" if you have it, and I do not want that done yet. Mainly because, they will usually only cut it out so many times before you have to have a hysterectomy, and I am young and if I do decide I want kids, I want to be able to have them.
Put your foot down and make them run tests. If you have insurance and you complain enough they will have to it. Good luck and I am truly sorry you are going through this.

Many cysts develop for no reason at all. I would agree that you should get tested because you should always rule thins out, but many people develop cysts without ever having a disease at all.

Hi I developed an ovarian cyst on my left ovary last november, it was extremely painful and was bleeding, they gave me antibiotics to remove any infection and a scan to rule out cancer, luckily it was benign, since then I have had a further 3 scans and the cyst seems to be shrinking of its own accord so hopefully ill avoid the need for surgery, cysts occur for no reason and most women get them at some point, although most have no symptoms so you dont realise youve had one cos they just vanish on there own, I wouldnt rush into surgery if your cyst is calming down as it may disappear on its own and I think surgery is always best avoided if possible, mine took 7 months to go but it went without interference so hang on if you can.
