had a blood smear done i have macrocytosis without anemia. my liver thyroid and vitamin b12 all normal dr told me to quit drinking for 3 months and retest. as alcohol could be the cause of the high mcv. if mcv still high may need bone marrow test. would anything else have shown up if i had a bonemarrow disorder?

I too was diagnosed with macrocytosis without anemia
I also have been diagnosed with macrocytodid without anemia. The docter wants to do a bone marrow biopsy, but I don't want to go through that if I only have one symptom of a disease. Did you ever find out what caused yours?

macrocytosis
I was told awhile ago that I had macrocytosis. Didn't think much of it. I drink on the weekends but no where near the amount my friends drink on a daily basis. Many of my family members are alcoholics. Am I predisposed to this condition? Now my triglycerides are at 291, Vitamin D at 18 and they just called me in to do a Vitamin B count. I hope they don't call me an alcoholic. Can macrocytosis be reversed?

I have been going through this for over a year. I too drink 1 day a week at most (except my 2 week vacation). I first started having problems when I had not had a drink for over a year (I was dieting and going through treatment for breast cancer). It was not chemo related either. I went through all the tests and was also told to stop drinking for 3 months. I did exactly as told, did not have one ounce during the 3 months and a few days before the blood test and had the same problem. I feel like my doctor does not believe me when I tell him how much I drink, nor does he believe me when I told him I did not drink a drop for the 3 months. I am changing doctors as now every thing is due to "my issue", including bone loss and slightly increased liver enzymes, both conditions are potential side effects of the medicine I started taking 2 months before the conditions started showing up. To answer your question, my MCVs vary from test to test and have dropped back to normal levels for a while (oddly enough, I had been on my 2 week vacation a couple of weeks before that blood test that showed normal).
