Q: Prostatis pain and discomfort in the tip of my penis & urethra
asked by: DoctorQuestion on December 10th, 2007
For the last 3 years I have suffered pain and discomfort in the tip of my penis and urethra. this pain was first experienced when I was on holiday some years ago, it was diagnosed as prostatitis. However this pain has become residual aand is ever present causing my need to urinate continually,sometimes I have a reasonable flow sometimes not. I am now impotent as any pressure on my penis hurts and I find sex extremely painful.

When I am sat down I get discomfort in my anus and a feeling of fullness in my bladder and bowel as if I want to urinate again this gets worse until I have to frequent the toilet and pass urine then it repeats itself over and over as the day progresses. Night time is worst of all I find it difficult getting over to sleep as the pain radiates from the tip of my penis along the urethra and feels as though it disappears up my back side.

I get tense and irritable, this has a damaging effect on my relationship with my wife,we are faithful no sexual infideity.

Given the symptoms, (pain in the penis, frequent urge for peeing, painful sex, impotency, and discomfort in the anus) you could be experiencing a chronic inflammation of the genitals and maybe of the urinary tract as well. Chronic inflammation of the urethra and prostate are very possible. Chronic prostate inflammation (prostatitis) can be due to an uncured / untreated acute infection or the persistence of benign prostate hyperplasia. Chronic urethral inflammation (urethritis) can be due to an infection that has not been completely treated or an allergic reaction (urethral syndrome). You can request a few diagnostic procedures in order to investigate:

1. Sperm analyses with microbiological examination;
2. Urine analyses with microbiological examination;
3. Standard Blood analyses;
4. Rectal examination of the prostate;
5. Ultrasound of the prostate;
6. Microbiological smear from the urethra;
7. Laboratory tests for STD;
8. Rectal examination.

Consult a urologist about your condition and request further diagnostics.
