Q: My Birth Story

My son was born on October 1st. I was induced at midnight at 36 weeks b/c of low fluid around the baby. The doctor came around that morning to check me and I hadn't made any progress. The baby was not responding well to the pitocin. So... my doc made the decision for me to have a C-Section. He was born at 10:40 a.m. weighing in at 6lbs 14oz.

However, the story does not end there. The day took a turn for the worst when my son's pediatrician came in the recovery room and said "you have a sick baby" My hearth sank. I was terrified. She told me my son was having problems breathing, and she had detected a heart murmur. Come to find out he was born with a heart defect. He has "Pulmonary Atresia" which basically means that his pulmonary valve was blocked and his lungs couldn't get the oxygen they needed! It is truly a miracle that my son is alive today.... all of the right decisions where made to save him. If the doctor would have made a quick decision to do a c-section... the stress of labor and delivery would have killed him.

He stayed 3 weeks at Vanderbilt Children's Hospital where he had a procedure done to open the valve. As of right now... he is doing very well at home! He is eating like a pig, and looks so healthy! You would never know he has a heart problem! I thank God for my miracle baby!

Oh my... congrats on having your baby! I'm so happy to hear that your little miracle baby is now doing fine! I bet that was the hardest thing in the world watching him go through something so hard so early in life! I'm just so glad he is okay! What did you name him?

oh wow, congratulations! Thank goodness for doctors and their very educated guesses. gained 5 lbs in 10wks?! he is a pig isn't he lol. They don't stay little for long Sad Congratulations on the successful surgery, I know how scary it can be, but it was my friend, not my baby, so I can't imagine how much more stressful it must have been Sad
