someone i know recently was hospitalized for having malaria. he has the most severe strain and is being transfered to another hospital which has the intravenous treatment that he needs. with this treatment and proper observation what is the risk of fatality?

i ask because stats say 20% fatality, but i live in canada and would assume that due to a 1st world health care system, the fatality rate be a lot less when compared to a worldwide statistic
