im 22. about 6 yrs ago i was told i would need possibly a surgery on my jaw to correct something can't remember now what it was. but they said it had to do with my wisdom teeth never being able to fully grow in. The dentist did mention TMJ. Then she drilled my teeth and hurt me, so needless to say I haven't back to the dentist since then; I'm scared of them.

Over the years I've had popping and clicking, sometimes a sound that I just can't explain. But it's not everytime I open, close, or chew.

About 3 months ago I was in a bad car accident. And about a week after the pain started. Horrible pain right at the right side joint. My bite became off. Then my teeth turned sensitive to temperature changes, most especially cold ( so painful!!). I thought it was related to the accident so I would take some painkillers and be on my way. It would correct itself in a few days.

3 days ago the pain came back worse than EVER. Painkillers don't help much. Opening my mouth feels to be more difficult. My teeth ache. Closinng my mouth hurts. My bite is so uncomfortable. I have found myself clenching my teeth quite often for the past few weeks. My jaw joint is tender to the touch, hurts constantly, and I swear I can feel it swell.

I can't take it anymore and am going to the dentist Monday. What can I do until then?? It is TMJ?

this does sound like tmd. i think you should go see a chiropractor about the car accident. this will help wiht the jaw as well. use heat to the joint and ice. pm me i have a few suggestions for you. you can get throught this.
