So, I had my first obgyn apt. ever last week. Found out I was 7.5-8 weeks pregnant. I didnt have insurance yet so we put off the papsmere and stuff till Jan. but my first question is, what is a papsmere?! I hear it refered to all the time, and I've read what it can detect, but I cant find anything about what the testing entails. AND the second question, my friend had 2 kids before she was 18 and used the chinese birth calendar and was right for both. Im 18 now and will be 19 by the time I deliver, and It the calendar says Im going to have a boy. What are your experiences with its correctness because waiting 20 weeks takes a lot of patience Wink ! Thanks!

I can't help you out with the chinese calendar, but I can tell you about what a pap smear is.

The procedure is this:

The physician inserts a speculum into your vagina, so that he can see your cervix. He uses a lubricant so that it will slide in more easily and sometimes the speculum is warmed for your comfort. The speculum is actually rather scary looking because it is rather large and it doesn't look like it's going to be a comfortable procedure for you, but the best thing for you to do is relax as best you can and this will lessen the discomfort.

The speculum separates the walls of the vagina leaving an opening in the center of the speculum so that the doctor can insert a cotton swab down the center, and take a sample of the tissue of your cervix without touching any other tissue.

It really only takes a few minutes in all.

He then sends the swabs off to the lab.

I wonder how accurate that Chinese calendar is?

Try it here:

I tried it even though I already had my child, but it still works after the fact, see if it was right! It was right for me!

Well the Chinese calendar has a 50/50 chance of being right. Just like guessing Smile

By the way, it wasn't right for my daughter - but it was right for my son. So... 50% right. I guess better than that! Wink

Pap Smear
nope the chinese calender was wrong for me, it told me i was having a boy, on the other hand all the wivestales were right and said i was having a girl. A pap smear is really uncomfortable, but its a necessity to make sure that your cells are healthy. It was hard for me to keep my legs open when they were doing the procedure lol, the doc was getting pissed off lol

Yikes, I hate pap smears, too. The doc always has to say, "Scoot down!" because I always slowly start sliding up and away from the edge of the table, away from him, lol!!!
