Have Pcos And Using Metformin, Also Having Discharge From Breast Posted: 12-06-07 14:48pm
Hi, I have pcos, I am using metformin 3
times per day ( I sometimes skip doses in
between because I feel very sick). I
noticed I was having a discharge from my
right breast, it came out white and dried
a yellowish color. It seems to happen
during the night time mostly. I went to
the doctor who ordered a pregnancy test,
prolactin test and breast ultra sound. I
was not pregnant, my prolactin was fine
and my breast ultrasound came back normal.
I know something is wrong because a few
nights ago I woke up in the middle of the
night because my breast started itching
tremendously, I was half asleep, but
remembered that while scratching my
breast, I felt something that felt like
hardened caked up liquid on my right
breast. I thought is was from the
discharge and my husband confirmed it the
next day because he asked me about it, he
also felt it during the night (it was a
lot this time). I am not sure what to do
since my tests came back okay. I am
considering a mamogram, not sure if it
will explain anything though. If anyone
had a similar experience please let me
know how you dealt with it.
Thanks for your replies

Are you seeing a regular doctor or a
specialist?
I know that breast discharge is a symptom
of pcos, however, I am not sure what
hormone actually causes it. Are you on
birthcontrol?

I was seeing an endocorine specialist, now
I have an ob/gyn. I am not on birth
control pills. My testosterone is high
and one test showed I have protein in my
urine also. I know it all sounds so
complicated. The only thing I am taking
is the metformin and I am going to start
taking some other herbal supplements soon.
They are Vitex (Angus Castus), Biotin and
Soy Tablets. I read they are good for
regulating your hormones. I am supposed
to start clomid in January.

I would tell your Endo about the Herbal
supplements before you take them.
Metfromin is really not fun to be on! Are
you seeing a Reproductive Endocrinologist?
From what i have learned is that if you
loose 10% of your wieght your system
starts regulating more and youll feel alot
better.

Yes, she was a reproductive
endocrinologist. Her visits were very
expensive, she really didn't do much to
help. She ordered some blood work and
when the results came in she said she
couldn't do anything for me and that I
should go to a fertility clinic. I went
back to my ob/gyn and now she's starting
me on clomid together with the metformin.
I agree I should let me doctor know about
the herbal supplements. I don't want
further complications. I am trying to
lose the extra weight, the cravings for
chocolate is the hardest to deal with but
I am trying. Thanks for the advice.
