Shortly after I got the depo prevera shot, I developed a knot on the inside of my left knee. I was under the impression I bumped into something not realizing it. Then it got bigger, and more sore. Just over the following weekend, I developed about 10 smaller knots on both legs, both knees are swollen,my ankles, too have littles knots on them and are so swollen that I cannot tie my shoes. When I sit for any period of time, the pain is so bad that it brings me to tears, and I need assistance getting up, but if i'm up and about they get sore, almost like a burning feeling. I cant bend my knees very well, god-forbid I need to move quickly for any reason!
All of my joints are sore, down to my knuckles. I called my obgyn and asked her, she seems to think that it's water retention, caused by depo but the knots are hard and they're, maybe a small marble sized, and they are red and warm to the touch....It's like, my joints are so stiff at time that no matter how hard I try, if I am down, I can not for the life of me, get up...Does that sound like a depo side affect????

All birth control has one bad possible side effect: blood clots and a reduction of good circulation. Most people don't get this, but it sounds like it might be one of your problems. I would get to a physician and let him know you are on birth control. Unlike pills you can't just stop depo because it's in your system for 3 months, but if the doctor thinks it might be from the depo they can at least try treating the problem.
