How Can I Help My Girlfriend With Bulimia? Posted: 12-05-07 19:03pm
I've been with my girlfriend for nearly 2
months now and as we got together she told
me she has bulimia, which was a brave
thing to do.
It tends to affect her once or twice a
month but when it does she gets really
depressed and doesn't want to see anyone
(sometimes me!)
I want to do something to help her but I
don't know what. She's been to the
doctors and has made another appointment
but is there anything that a partner can
do to help apart from providing as much
support as possible?
Many thanks for your help.

Well I am recovering from anorexia and
bulimia. This past month I have been
slipping. My boyfriend is freaking out and
doesnt know how to help. The best advice I
can give to you is to talk to her about
it.Let her talk about it and try to find
the root of what is triggering her.Try and
eat with her. That really helps. If she eats
with you, then she is going to know that
you are aware she is going to purge(throw
up) and will be embarrassed and most
likely wont.It such a hard situation to be
in on the other side.I mean my boyfriend
didnt go threw this with me the first
time,so he doesnt realize how it works ya
know.He can yell and scream at me to
eat,or not to purge, but that is never the
solution. He wants me to stop for him,and
as much as I would love that to be the
case,its alittle more complicated then
that.Because when I do it,I block
everything else out and think of nothing
except for how Im going to get around not
eating,or eating and getting sick.It can
get tiring. If you feel like she is getting
out of control,go and talk to her parents
so they could try and talk her into
getting some help from people who know
about this stuff.Just let her know you
want to be her motivation to get help.Hope
that helps and good luck!

Thankyou so much for your help, I really
appreciate it. I particularly like the
idea of eating when she does. Thanks
again.
