Hello everybody!

I'm a new member here and I hope you will help me understand my problem.

I'm 28 years old and in last two years I started experiencing strange health conditions.

I believe it all started with sciatic pain. It happened occasionally and I never really paid too much attention to it. it was usually just a moderate pain that made me feel uncomfortable, but sometimes I couldn't shift my weight on my leg because of the pain.
later I developed some sort of lower back pain that was sometimes shifting to my upper back. it was all occasionally and I don't even remember when it entered my everyday life.

now I have morning stiffness, so bad that sometimes I barely can tie my shoe laces! during a day it usually fades away, but still I'm not really flexible and cannot bend over normally.
also, sometimes back pain in the morning is so bad that it wakes me up and I can't find comfortable posture to fall asleep again! it feels like my lower back muscles are cramped up so bad that it hurts!
I bought memory foam mattress and now I sleep well, but still I can't get rid of morning stiffness and occasionally sciatic pain.

I'd like to see a doctor, but I just cannot afford it. I don't have healt insurance and paying full price is out of question (unless somebody is willing to donate Smile

I could afford a chiropractor, and would appreciate any recommendations for a good chiropractic in chicago. PM me if it's against the rules to posti directly on the board.

thanks

Hello Thatsonlyme,

Welcome to the forum!!!

How do I say this properly? - I understand your situation regarding not having health insurance. When will this country get its act together so EVERYONE will have health benefits? To go on - may I suggest that rather than spend your money going to a chiro, that instead you seek the advice from a well respected neurologist/spinal surgeon. Yes, it will cost money, but in my opinion your money would be far better invested.

What kind of work do you do? Do you have a sedentary lifestyle? Because you can manage back pain now that you're young with some simple practices and making a committment to your health. It's not going to get better with time!

If you are stiff in the joints, I'd recommend some gentle exercises in the morning ... those that you can perform without pain. You can start on your back and rotate your ankles, for example. A hard surface is best for this, as you don't want to compromise your lumbar spine. Then, place your hands on your knees and rotate your knees internally, and then externally. This will open your hips. Often, knee pain is associated with very tight hips. You can bring your knees to your chest and then roll from L to R, massaging the sciatic nerves. This feels really good.

Later, on your hands and knees you might gently arch and curl your back slowly.

Remember --- stop if you feel any pain!

Hi
Lower back pain sometimes is the result of weak abdominals muscles. Do some light sit-ups and see if that helps.
