Hi Everyone,

I am a a young mother of two boys who has recently heard the benefits of taking Omega 3. It seems that they are really good for cardiovascular health and even your hair and skin. Is this true? There are so many different ones out there that picking one of them is hard. Does anyone have any advice on taking Omega 3? Is this really something I should be taking?

Tried Product
I just started taking a supplement called NutraSea. It’s made by a company called Ascenta and you can get it in a liquid or capsules from health stores. I get the liquid because it absorbs quicker and it’s flavored so it doesn’t taste anything like fish. Actually, it tastes good; it’s lemon flavored. I think they have a new orange flavored one too that I haven’t tried yet. I’ve been taking it for about a month and I definitely noticed a difference in my skin; it’s a lot more moisturized. But the biggest improvement is my alertness. I feel like I’m more on top of things. I’m also a runner and my stamina has increased; I don’t get as short-winded as I usually do. I would recommend this product. Check out their website.

I too am confused. My doctor recommended 1000 mg. daily and the directions on the one I bought (1000 mg.) says to take 3 times daily. I am currently taking the 1000 mg as suggested. I know it is good for heart health, and I have also heard it is good for depression. I am not sure. I have also heard Vitamin C is good for anxiety - has anyone else heard of this?

Fish oil and Omega-3 has many benefits. Among the most popular is cardiovascular health. In fact, there are studies comparing fish oil to statin drugs which show that fish oil is actually safer and more beneficial than statins, believe it or not. And as I said, that is just one of the benefits. Fish oil is also great for joints, hair, and skin. Just do a google search on fish oil studies and you'll find plenty of info out there.

When selecting a fish oil supplement, keep in mind that it is important to try and use something which is pharmaceutical grade and preferable NSF certified. This ensures that you are getting the highest quality product and most bioavailable form available. Meaning, your body will absorb it. Personally, I use Usana but as I said, the important thing is to try and use a pharmaceutical grade product.
