Q: Blood In Stool - Poor Nate

Nathan was in speech today and suddenly had major stomach cramping. I took him to the bathroom when he started screaming. He had diarrhea accompanied with a lot of blood. He had some diarrhea the day before yesterday, too. This is a significant change in his stool as he is usually constipated. If he had blood in his stool while constipated, I could understand more. Then an anal fissure would make sense. Perhaps he has a hemorrhoid - 4 years old and with a hemorrhoid? I am taking him to his gastro doc tomorrow. Anyone else experience this? He has had blood in his stool before but not to the point of making the whole toilet red! Poor Nate Crying or Very sad

Thanks everyone for your support. I am SO tired of Nate's digestive issues. I am going to ask for more bloodwork. He is such a pale looking kid. He still only weighs 31 pounds and doesn't seem to be growing at the same pace as his peers. He does eat now, which is a plus but his weight is the same. He has dark circles under his eyes and it really makes us look like we don't take care of him.

My husband is taking him to the doctor tomorrow and I will write a letter that will be the "voice" since he may not remember everything.

Hopefully, when they see how tall my husband is they will take more notice. Yes, I am on the shorter side (5'4) and my son may take after me but my husband is 6'6. Having a child that is getting to be pretty short compared to his peers doesn't make a lot of sense unless he really has the "short" gene in my family:( He is such a petite, short little boy and the digestive issues have to play a part. I am wondering if something more is wrong with him?

I'm really sorry Karin, I know this has been a struggle for a long time. I hope it gets taken care of soon and Nate can be well.
You never know, he may sprout out when he hits puberty. Like Suzy said some kids do that.

Oh man I can feel your frustration with Nates ongoing digestive problems, I am so sorry that you are dealing with this.

And poor Nathan! That just doesn't seem fair to be happening to such a young guy. I hope this all gets sorted out.

Update
Nate went to the gastro nurse today and they are FINALLY ordering up a bunch of tests. I know they did order up a few tests before that showed he does not have celiac disease. The test is going to be a mainly "rule out" for things such as Leukemia and the such. He had major bone pain a few weeks ago, which was an odd sign but I think that was just an unrelated growth pain.

The nurse indicated that he may just have a colonic stretch that resulted in bleeding, a lymphoid hyperplasis (allergic inflammation), juevenile polyp or colitis. The blood work included food allergies. I wonder why they didn't rule out food allergies before. This has been a huge problem for years. I will get the results either tomorrow or in a few days. He doesn't have a anal tear or a hemorrhoid.
