Phew I'm not the only one who doesn't remember that appointment! I don't remember anything about that day whatsoever.. It seems like it was so long ago but yet like it was yesterday, if that makes sense.

despite being on post c-section painkillers, i do remember pieces of that day. i don't even know why... i know he was 5 days old and i couldn't find my pants and i remember what he was wearing and that i took the picture i ended up using for his birth announcement. the only thing i remember about the appointment is getting a ton of free formula. oh, and i was literally *dripping* with sweat while we were talking to the doctor.

Both my kids didn't get any shots at their first visits. The shots started at 2months for both of them. But maybe things are different here in Canada.

Also I used Emla patches when they got their shots and it really seemed to help with the pain. I would just place a patch in the area where they would be given the needle (usually upper/outer thigh) and it freezes it. The only needle my daughter felt was when she was 18 months because it burns when it goes into the muscle.

Anyways hope her visit goes well!!! You'll get to see how much weight she has gained.

yea bella didnt get her shots until 2 months.

At the doctor Suzy They'll probably just get a weight, height and head circumference measurment.. Check her reflexes and such ... give you lots of infor see how you're feeling and such... And don't be worried if she weighs a little less then she did at birth , most babies do , Bella did... then she bounced right back!

she didnt get the hep b shot at the hospital?
that is when bree got her first one.

there going to look at her skin tone, ask you questions about her bowel movements, weigh her, ask about her feedings.. Stuff like that.

I cried at brees because she had to go to a doctors office in a ghetto part of town and people were coughing and I seriously lost it..

Post labor hormones are awesome. lol

Maybe they didn't give her the shot in the hospital so they are making it up at the appointment?? O well I'm sure they know what they are doing!

Alyvia got a heel stick at her appointment. I remember because the nurse slapped a bandaid on it and walked off, but the bandaid didn't stick and there was blood everywhere and I had a mini-freakout.

no they didnt give her HEP B shot at the hospital
they gave me the option to do so and i said no because the risk was fever and there were a few more side effects. i didnt want any side effects because of what she had already been through i decided to wait and get it done.

Oni didn't get her HEP B shot at the hospital. I decided to wait because her Dr's office offered one with no mercury. Or without SOME type of chemical.

ONi was in the Dr's office EVERYDAY after her birth for blood tests for her Jaundice. Which KEPT going UP & UP & UP!!!! so we were regulars from JUMP!!

OK, at their first appointment you doc is checking for any post-birth complications which were misssed wjhile you were in the hospital.

They will listen to her heart to see if she has a transient murmer-it's a common conditiion in newborns and most of this finish growing together on their own and are completely benign.

He will check again the positioning of her hips to be sure that she has no signs of congenital hip dysplagia.

They will do a follow up heel stick to check for inborn errors of human deleopment which can occur as baby develops. These are failry rare, and many can be treated if intervention occurs within two weeks of birth. This is just a confirmatory test, as they also do one in the hospital. Both my kids slept through this procedure.

They will offer you the Hep B vaccine if your child hasn't already received this. I declined to have this given to my children until they were older. But that's just me.

The doc will weigh baby, inquire about feedings and diapers, take measurments of head circ and weight/height. As stated previuosly, it is quite common for baby to loose some weight in the first few days-particularly breast fed babies. Typically, a child will double their birth weight in six months and triple it by one year.

Your physician may review baby's hearing tests from the hospital to determine if follow up testing is required.

A good pediatrician will ask about how you are feeling. Make a list of any questions and concerns and address these with your physician during your visit. Better to ask now than to have to call him another day with a question. He will inquire about nursing (if applicable), your sleep, your mood, and check for any signs of post-partum depression or anxiety. His concern should be for every aspect of your baby's life, and that includes your ability to care for her, so be honest with your child's care provider. He is accustomed to this issue and can offer suggestions and resources for you.

Once Kristin has her head to toe 1 week tune-up, you will be on your way. Have fun! Ask questions. I can't wait to heaar how she's doing.
