Q: Breast Or Bottle? What Did You Do?

This is just out of interest really to see how many people did what and why they chose to do it.

i'm breastfeeding.
I chose to breastfeed because it was logical, breasts make milk and babies need milk. Also the benifits for both myself and Mika and also because forula is so expensive i didn't see the point of spending so much money if i had my own supply for free.

I bottle feed. It is expensive, but I felt it was the right choice for us. I only had a few weeks off and then I had to return to work. So, I didn't want to have problems with her rejecting the bottle and not eating for the sitters. Plus, it allows her daddy to take some of the early morning feedings so I can sleep.

I also had some complications the night she was born and never got a chance to even try to breastfeed. It was about 14-16 hours after she was born before I got to see her again.

I bottle feed.

I chose that because I had no milk supply whatsoever until he was well over 2 weeks old..so I had no choice really.

My next one I will breastfeed though

I breast fed Jaylon for the first 3 months. I would have continued longer, but I had to go back to work and I had no luck pumping, so we switched to formula at that time.
I had no choice but pump when Brianna was born, because she was a premie and couldn't nurse. By the time she was able to nurse, she was so used to the bottle she wanted nothing to do with the boob. LOL.

I bottle fed layla cause i had really bad postnatal depression and i felt no connection to her. When I was pregnant i fully intended to breastfeed though and bought the pump, bras, nursing tops etc- everything I needed and it was all wasted Sad

With logan i bottle fed because felt i needed an easy way that would give me lots of help. i couldn't imagine breastfeeding and looking after a 10 month old too.

I love the bond and the time shared just breastfeeding.

I breastfed for the first 4 months and then I had to switch to the bottle because of school and work. I would have loved to continue longer but it just was not possible.

I bottle fed both my kids. I have super sensitive breasts so when I was pregnant I decided that bottle feeding would be better because there was no way that I could ever imagine a baby latching on to them for so many hours a day..lol I knew that it would be really tough for me and I didn't want to "not" enjoy feeding my baby. I know that some of you may say that I didn't even try so how would I know.....but my hubby can't even go near them with his mouth....lol

Plus I am not the greatest eater and at least with formula I knew that my babies were getting the proper nutrition.

I breastfed both of my kids as long as they would let me. I loved it (except for at the very beginning). It was such a special time, and one I will never get to have again.

i'm breastfeeding eadie. she's 4 months now (dec 6th) and we both love it. she doesn't like bottles. i just never considered bottle feeding. i guess it just seems natural that i breastfeed her because that's what nature gave me boobs for. it was hard at the beginning and sometimes it still is, (she's teething now) but for us it's worth it.

I breastfeed for 2 weeks. I stopped b/c I had enough. I physically and mentally couldn't do it anymore and in the back of my mind I knew Jesse wanted me to quit. It didn't help not to have much support. I plan on breastfeeding again for longer hopefully. I really hope he supports me this time. Ava will think it's funny. She's obsessed with my boobs. She calls them tee tees.

im bottle feeding kristen because i felt like it was the best choice for us all
i could sleep and travis could feed her. plus with all of the stuff that happened with her breatheing and being in NICU in the hospital it was hard for me to deal with. when the lactation consultant came to talk to me about pumping for her so they could feed her i decided id rather have her be bottle fed. i was pretty upset and pumping was the last thing i wanted to do.

kristen does great with formula. its more expensive but its the route we chose for our own reasons.

I bottle fed Chyanne. Because i had to return to work 3 weeks after i had her. I had no choice. I didn't have family help, and i was doing everthing on my own. I signed up for WIC, and i got my formula for free. It was just the right choice for us.

I plan on bottle feeding Sophia too. I get a few more weeks off this time, but again it's the right choice for me, and our family. I am not on WIC this time, and i don't know if we will. We are going to try it on our own, but if things get to tough we will sign up. I don't want to, but i guess if we do, we do.

I breastfed Kaylee for about the first month or so, maybe a little longer, I can't remember exactly. But I stopped because I was exhausted, physically & mentally. It was starting to get really frustrating that Kaylee would only sleep 15-20 minutes at a time so one night I gave her a bottle of formula just so I could get an hour or so of sleep & planned on still breastfeeding the next day. The next day rolled around & she didn't want anything to do with the boob. I regret giving up so soon still to this day. With our next baby I definitely plan on sticking it out & breastfeeding at least until the baby is one. That was my plan with Kaylee too. A big part of it also was that I didn't have a whole lot of support for breastfeeding. No one in my family had ever done it, Shane's family I felt they resented me for it because they couldn't feed Kaylee & I know Shane wasn't too keen on the idea of me breastfeeding in public, so that made it even harder to want to keep doing it.

I breast fed for the first 2 months... It got to be too much for me.
I was exhausted and she was getting very frustrated with me most of the time.. Plus she only liked the left boob , so i had very lopsided breasts.
I kept at it , but then I started to pump and bottled feed her that for another month and then I went back to work. She eats liek a cow , alkways has and frankly, I just could not keep up with her, It was then that I decided to switch completely to formula... I still feel guilty about it.

I bottlefed, Breast feeding just didnt feel right to me (tried for the first 2 days) plus i wasnt the best eatter and i KNOW that.. im one of the pickiest eatters ever so yeah, i thought Reese was better off on forumla, Shawn agreed with me so thats what we did. Forumla wasnt too expensive for us.. at first it costed us 20 bucks a month, but as he grew it got more and more expensive, it got to a high of 80$ a month (we used no name) it was the same as Simaclac Advantage or w/e its called.. and it must have been good stuff cause Reese grew fast, never got sick, and is a big boy

i'm a formula feeder, i'm just not comfortable with breastfeeding. plus i have major food issues (when not pregnant), so i probably couldn't have kept my supply up anyway.

personally i didn't find formula to be that expensive. of course the extra money would have been nice each month, but we only spent $40/month in the beginning and were down to under $20 the last few months (with no assistance).

I breastfed Nathan for 10 weeks and stopped because I had a lump in my breast (ended up being a benign cyst). Also, I was going back to work full time and it would have been so difficult to pump at work. People who can pump and work full time are the most dedicated people.

I am still breastfeeding Brian but supplement with a bottle when I am at work two days a week. I did give Brian a bottle right from the start on a few occasions but at first the bottle was my breastmilk. I chose primarily breastfeeding for Brian because of the many benefits associated with breastfeeding. Since Brian was so sick at the beginning, I wanted to increase his immune system as much as I could (not to say if you had a sick child and don't breastfeed, you don't care - this is what worked for me). He has been pretty healthy. When I stopped nursing Nathan, he got sick with RSV about a month later. That is when he was placed in an in home daycare full time as well. He may have still gotten sick if I was still nursing him, but that will always be on my mind. He was sick with respiratory infections off and on until the age of three.

Now I am emotionally struggling because I may have to stop breastfeeding Brian. I have severe anxiety (had it all my life) and am at the point I may need meds again. Wonderful postpartum issues. Brian is almost five months old and DOES NOT take a bottle when I am around. The weening process will be horrible!! Feeding at night is just so easy right now!! We co-sleep and I can't imagine getting up in the middle of the night to make a bottle. Then again, at least he will probably sleep a little more. He no longer sleeps through the night Sad

I'm going to try breastfeeding, because the experts say that it's healthier and I agree it probably is. I will try pumping at work during my breaks, and hopefully that will work as long as I can make it to. I will try to do some feeding with breastmilk from a bottle for the first couple weeks as well as actual breastfeeding just to get him used to a bottle too.
