I breastfed Nathan for 10 weeks and stopped because I had a lump in my breast (ended up being a benign cyst). Also, I was going back to work full time and it would have been so difficult to pump at work. People who can pump and work full time are the most dedicated people.
I am still breastfeeding Brian but supplement with a bottle when I am at work two days a week. I did give Brian a bottle right from the start on a few occasions but at first the bottle was my breastmilk. I chose primarily breastfeeding for Brian because of the many benefits associated with breastfeeding. Since Brian was so sick at the beginning, I wanted to increase his immune system as much as I could (not to say if you had a sick child and don't breastfeed, you don't care - this is what worked for me). He has been pretty healthy. When I stopped nursing Nathan, he got sick with RSV about a month later. That is when he was placed in an in home daycare full time as well. He may have still gotten sick if I was still nursing him, but that will always be on my mind. He was sick with respiratory infections off and on until the age of three.
Now I am emotionally struggling because I may have to stop breastfeeding Brian. I have severe anxiety (had it all my life) and am at the point I may need meds again. Wonderful postpartum issues. Brian is almost five months old and DOES NOT take a bottle when I am around. The weening process will be horrible!! Feeding at night is just so easy right now!! We co-sleep and I can't imagine getting up in the middle of the night to make a bottle. Then again, at least he will probably sleep a little more. He no longer sleeps through the night
