no you shouldnt play hockey with it.
It needs ice, rest, rehabilitation and proper exercises to bring strength back. If it is a complete tear sometimes surgery is indicated.

i have a question. ok i dont know if i tore my rotator cuff or if it was muscle but i was throwning a football and all of a sudden my shoulder pops and went dead, after i gave it a rest and thought nothing of it. i went to some baseball practices and threw but by the second practice rolled around i could barely throw and now when ever im not doing anything or slightly moving it i get very sharp pains in my shoulder can anyone can tell what i did to it?

Sounds like Rotator Cuff though the fact that it 'went dead' suggests also a neurological problem.

Either way, I would stop playing all sports and get along to your doctor for diagnsis as soon as possible. it will need rest, ice / heat and painkillers as well as rehabilition excercises.

If you say it "poped" there is a very good chance you dislocated it. A dislocaton (when the head of the humerous pops out of the acronon process of the scapula) commonly follows the rotator cuff injury because the rotator cuff hold help to hold the shoulder together. Hence, you need an X-ray taken.
