Recently, I have been trying to buy life insurnce. I have gone to major insurance carriers, starting with my family and business agent. I've been turned down three times...strike three! On the first and third try, I got a call from the local agent, saying they needed additionaly information from my psyche doctor, then shortly after that, got a notification that my application was rejected.

I had another friend in the insurance business tell me, being bi-polar, I would never be able to get 'normal' life insurance, at a 'normal' rate. Is there anyone else with similar experiences? What to do?

Thanks!

Extremely eHealthy
My husband was rejected as well.
They tend to lump all bipolars in the same category "high risk" and seem to think of bipolars as a suicide or accident risk (during depression or mania stages). We have to pay $50 or $75 a month for life insurance JUST for my husband. Mine is the normal rate. We have been paying that for five years. Even during extreme financial times, we pay it as we feel it is one of the most important things to have in addition to medical insurance.

Honestly, you will probably have to pay a lot of money for life insurance. If you have a family (I assume you do due to your posting name), I would fork out the money and pay it. I encourage you to keep trying. Talk to your psychiatrist or doctor about it and perhaps he has some ideas. This is the reason why some people "lie" or don't even use their regular insurance for psychiatrist appts.

It just stinks..trust me, I know!

Good luck. If you figure a way to beat it without lying, let me know. We refuse to lie because it is considered fraudulent.

I think it's great you are doing everything you can to get life insurance. Many people don't think about it and their children are left in a bind if something happens to them. I have heard some horribly sad stories.

Don't give up! The right agent. The right company.
98% of life insurance companies will go screaming into the dark at the very mention of bipolar. The truth is that, given the following criteria, affordable life insurance is available.
1. Other than for diagnosis, no hospitalization for bipolar in the last 10 years
2. No suicide attempts
3. You can't be on disability
4. You have to be compliant and consistent with your treatment
5. You have to have a stable home and work life

The right insurance companies aren't asking for anything more than they do for someone with diabetes, or heart disease, or epilepsy. If you have good control and are compliant with treatment, you get the prize. Affordable life insurance can be yours.

Disabiltiy and Life Insurance
In the context of bipolar, being on disability speaks directly to a person's ability to be stable and functional in society. Stability speaks directly to how well control the bipolar is.

Life insurance underwriters are looking for control. Whether it is diabetes, high blood pressure of bipolar disorder, control is the number one underwriting criteria.

Bipolar and Life Insurance
Yes, you can get Life Insurance being dignose with Bipolar. Fidelity will underwrite the policy under their Graded Death Policy, it can be a Term or Whole Life. I write for them on Georgia. If you're in Georgia I can write your policy. Although, I'm licensed in several other States, I can't write the Graded Dealth, due to I have to come to your location for that policy.. All other Term Policies, I can write over the telephone and internet.. If you have any questions call me at 888-247-6067 and maybe I can find an agent for you in your area...
