Just wondering what other people here thought about it. My older sister is pregnant with a boy and her and her husband are planning on naming him Jade. I kind of like the name but isn't it ment to be a girl's name? o_O

I love the name but I've never heard it used for a male before. If I was the parents I'd seriously think about that name before making it a final decision just cuz they might wanna look at the future outcome as meaning how will the other kids in school treat him, kids can be creul.

My Name is Jade
I'm a bloke and my name is Jade. I was born in the early 70's so it was still very rare for a boy OR a girl then. I never got teased about my name at school. I did get teased about being chubby, but not about my name!

My comments are probably to late for the original poster, but just in case someone else is having these thoughts....

The biggest gripe I have (and this is only occasional I might add) is people not believing me when I say my name, the kind of people who have decided that its only a girls name and repeat every traditional boys name back at me "James? Jake? Jase? Jamie? Jay?" until it finally dawns on them that they did hear correctly "Jade" they say barely masking the astonishment... "I bet you got teased about that, blah blah blah (well, no never), "why did they call you that"? (why did your parents give you such a boring name?) "ooh its like the boy named Sue song isn't it?" (no cos Jade is a name for a boy or a girl you small minded jerk)... you get the picture, but I have to say the positive reactions are far more frequent, "ooh thats a nice name", "Thats unusual, I'll remember you" "that name really suits you" so there you go, don't be shy of calling a boy Jade, it might well be his unique selling point. It has certainly been one of mine and I'm really proud of my name, how many people can say that?

Definitely unique and easy to remember. I think it's more common for a girl's name.

I think it's overused and trashy for a girl, underused, unique and super cool as a boy's name. Any way it's not "supposed" to be any gender. Jade is a gemstone and gemstones are unisex.

I prefer Cade or Kade to Jade. Sounds more masculine somehow.

My family name for a boy has been Jay Dee for many generations now (pronounced like the letters). I want to honor my grandpa (who was an important part of my life) and my husband and I have jade wedding bands, so I want to name my first son Jayde. I hope most of you are right in saying it works for a boy! Irregardless, it has significant meaning to me, my family, and my husband.

I think its totally down to you, if you love it go for it! I must admit I have always considered it to be a girls name, but its your choice at the end if the day. Just bare in mind though that kids can be very cruel and may pick up on the fact it is a "girl" name you know? You will know for sure when you hold him for the first time I am sure. Good luck with it all, and I know in the end you will find the perfect name! xxx

Love it, but change the spelling to JAYDE. Then it is more masculine, and sexy too!

I like the name Jade a lot. I've never heard of it for a boy, but I like it okay. I think they might want to consider Jayden or Jadelyn, though.

I am also a male named Jade (surprisingly born in the 70's as have the others) and believe me its great having a unique name. It is always a conversation starter and its great not having to share your name with thousands of others.

My take on it is if this name means something to you then go for it...but not too many though as I said I like being unique Smile
