Q: Moving Back to Us - Health Insurance

I live in Ireland and have ovarian cancer. I have good health coverage here, and plan to stay at least through the initial round of treatment. I wonder if I will need to stay here until I am eligible for Medicare (fortunately only 4 years). Is there any way I can ever get health coverage in US? Also, will I be able to get supplemental insurance with Medicare?

the Reality of Your Situation
I am sorry to here about your cancer, but as for your question. Currently you have two options.

1) most states have a risk pool that is required to take you, but it generally is expensive and since your currently don't have insurance in the states you would have to a 12-18 months waiting period to get coverage on the preexisting conditions

2) Consider getting a job that you are able to do that offers benefits. I caution you though that you may run into the preexisting conditions too. So I suggest an HMO plan that dose not have any preexisting conditions.

Hope this helps,
