Thank you for your sympathies with regards to my fathers death. I do appreciate that this drug can save countless lives and on the whole has a pretty good success rate. My biggest concerns are that this drug is being over-prescribed without due concideration and subsequent monitoring. When Champix was prescribed to my father the practitioner did not convey any warnings other than the potential for mild side effects (Nausea, Headache, disturbed sleep etc..). What needs to happen is that patients are told to inform the people around them to be vigilant with regards to behavioral changes. Pfizer needs to be more forthcoming with reports of post release effects and not just use there relatively small scale studies as an indicator for potentialy serious adverse reactions. Good luck to all the people wishing to kick the habit but be cautious and aware of the problems which are occuring. I kicked the nicotine trap by reading "Alan Carrs - 'EASYWAY' to stop smoking" a safer way with zero side effects.

I agree totally Mark. A patient should be made aware of ALL the facts. Serious, potentially life threatening or not. I wonder how many people would still take the drug though had they all the facts. I know I wouldn't of done. And i guess that is why the doctors don't it as they are governed by massive drug manufacturing companies and perhaps on commission?!!! Cynical I know! Smile

On a previous attempt to pack up smoking I used Allan Carrs EASYWAY and it was fantastic. The only other attempt (other than Champix) where I can honestly say I did not crave a cigarette. The only bit of advice I would give is to re-read it again after about 4 months regardless of how strong you are feeling. I fell back into the trap after about 6/7 months hence why I suggest you may want to re-read it. So stooooopid. Good luck all.

This is my 24th day on Champix and I haven't smoked now for 11 days. I think this stuff is amazing! Very
Happy Well so far so good anyway, with only some side effects including mild nausea which has calmed down now, some quite vivid and wild dreams, frequent urination and more plentiful as well and with a stronger odour, lots and lots of gas which is driving me nuts and some mild occasional constipation. Other than that I feel fantastic! I couldn't have done it without Champix. I've tried Zyban for 12 months straight and still smoked 30 a day, always waiting for that quit date to arrive but it never did. With Champix my quit date seemed to arrive without too much effort whatsover. Truly unbelievable for me after being hopelessly hooked on 60+ a day for 37 years.

My BIG worry is how great I feel on this drug. I seem more relaxed and confident, less irritable and it feels like there's a nice cosy security blanket around me and I'm just cruising nicely. I only occasionally feel like I want to smoke during the day but it's pretty easy to cope with and the thought soon passes.
I've heard that coming off these tablets suddenly can be pretty horrible and you can drop like a ton of bricks into depression or anxiety. This worries me a lot and it also worries me that I will take up smoking again to help me get through it.

I see my Doc this week for my next packet, so I'll talk to her about how we are going to cope with the possible mood changes when the course finishes. Maybe we should wean ourselves off very slowly over a week or two by cutting the tablet in half and quarters???? Good luck all.
