Q: Work. 5-12:30? Rant.

My manager from Borders wanted me to come in tonight from 5PM to 12:30AM to close. Since I DON'T have a car, and I couldn't get a ride I said there is no way I could get home afterwards and that I was sorry. She got mad at me. What the hell?! My shifts are pretty much ALL eight hours if not seven, and I'm PREGNANT. Does she not even realize that I go to bed around ten most of the time? I love my job, but I hate it that when I finally have a weekend off, she wants me to work until almost one in the morning (by the way, we don't close this late all the time, I guess we close at twelve sometimes..?)

I'm just really frustrated that she gets mad when I can't be there because some girl called out because "she doesn't feel good". TRY BEING PREGNANT. I go to work nauseated and with a migrane and not ONCE do I complain about it while I'm there. I suck it up and do my job because I have rent and bills to pay.

I have to work on Monday night from 5-10, which isn't a big shift at all, but I'm still annoyed. I don't know. Do you think it's fair? Am I just overreacting? I just want normal part time shifts. If she needs more people working in the cafe right now, HIRE MORE PEOPLE. I want to cry, I'm so frustrated.

If she knows you don't drive yourself to work, she shouldn't expect you to work that late and get someone to come get you. She definitely has no right to get angry at you because you can't find a ride at 1 in the morning.

A lot of businesses unfortunately care only about themselves and not about their employees. My former boss used to get irate at people if they had to leave to pick up a sick child from school. Evil or Very Mad

Sorry sweetie. Sad

Ew, I can't stand selfish people. I'm sorry you aren't getting the shifts you like, and heck no they shouldn't be able to get mad at you for not being able to come in! I don't think you're overreacting, I'm frustrated for you.

I had no idea Borders was open that late? She was probably mad because she had to stay...can't say that I blame her there, but she should be mad at the girl who called out on a Saturday (aka Saturday flu) than you who can't go in.

Retail sucks

It really does.

Yeah, I have no idea why Borders is open until 12 some nights. Maybe it's a holiday thing? I never asked. On Thursday, there is a family fun thing where there is going to be caroling and games and stuff at Borders from 7-9 (what?). I'm not excited to work that. :[

Yeah, I would be mad too. The only time people call out is basically when the store is open that late, because they "don't feel good" AKA they don't want to close.
