On Christmas eve i had my first kidney stone when i was 12.
Today i had to go to the hospital because i have another one, &
i am 17. Im wondering why i keep getting them, being so young. i know you shouldn't drink so much coke and eat a lot of salt, but i dont think that i drink soda more than the average person. Only a soda a day.
I have to also go to a urologist.. is it a good idea to see one, or are they going to give me the run around?

thank(:

Type of Stones You Make??
Have the doctors determined what type of stones you are making?
Stones run in families also. Do others in your family get them?

I would go to the urologist, it's very important to follow up when you have a history of kidney stones. They can become obstructed resulting in further problems.
He will probably send you for some tests, a 24 hour urine collection, CT Scan or ultrasound.

I get stones often as does my son. We both started at a young age also.

I am 18 years old and have had about 10 kidney stones in the past 4 months. I went to have one removed and the doctor analyzed it and said it was because of dehydration. He told me to make sure not to drink alcoholic beverages or carbonated beverages, but if I do drink those, I should drink a bottle of water for every coke I have to even it out. You may try doing that.

Pushing fluids is the best thing to get those stones moving.

Sorry I haven't replied sooner, I've been busy with the holidays and not feeling well.

How did it go with the doctor? Did you find out what type of stones you have?

Happy New Year!!!

I am so sorry to hear you are going through this again. I can totally sympathize with you as I spent New Year's Eve and the past couple of days sick with stones myself. I've been vomiting and in a lot pain.

I have had 3 operations for other kidney/urological problems which is causing me problems again also, the stones are adding to my continuing misery.

You are in my thoughts.
Please keep me posted. If you have any questions please ask. I'm here to listen also if you need to vent. Smile

Take Care.. Smile

As a person who has also had several stones over the last few years, I must say that butterfly6169 is correct about seeing a urologist. Since you now know what may be causing your stones, you probably do need to collect some stones so that it can be determined what type they are.

Kidney stones may also be hereditary and diet may have little to do with the cause. That's why the doctors need to know what kind yours are, so they can tell you specifically what to do to avoid them in the future.

Drinking plenty of water is never a bad thing and is linked to avoiding forming stones. So, keep drinking water and avoid too much of the cola-based drinks, tea and coffee. Salt has also been linked to formation of stones as has several foods.

Google kidney stones and read as much as you can about them and try to identify your stones' composition. I'm sorry you're having to go through this at such a young age.

butterfly6169--sorry you are feeling so bad, too. I wouldn't wish stone pain on my worst enemy. I hope your other problems get worked out also.

Good luck!

Thanks both of you, unfortunately for me my kidney issues will never be resolved as I have a kidney disease along with other complications which I'll put a thread at another time. I feel yucky still from these stones and vomiting.

lonestarguy you are correct..diet and salt are big culprit for many people who form stones but it is important to find out what type of stones are being formed. Some people just keep making stones which is the case for me. There is medication to prevent them but it won't stop them all together.
