I NEED HELP IN DECIDING TO CHOOSE KEPRA
hello i am new here my name is nicole.
i have had epilepsy for 9 years. i have been having trouble with with myoclonic seizures lately. i have to have a lot of sleep in order to not have a seizure. i have jerks every morning and sometimes during the day and in the afternoon. i would say that i have jerks 4 days out of the week and a seizure every three months. now i know this is not normal if your seizure medicine is working for you. so i am wondering what kind of medicine is good? one of my doctors told me that kepra would be good to control my jerking...but im scared of the side affects...i mean has anyone out there had problems with getting enough sleep, eating right, and taking your medicine but still having jerks and seizures?
the medicine iam on right now is zonegran and colozepran. 100 mg in the morning and 300 at night of the zonegran and .05 of the colozepran.

i dont know what to do anymore! someone plz tell me if kepra is good for myoclonic seizures and jerking! im going to college soon and im scared.

thank you and write me if you anyone knows a specialist or if anyone can help me.

I started having seizures at 16 and was taking tegretol until i was 19. The dr took me off all meds. Then a few years ago, at 26, I started having myoclonic seizures. I was put on 1000 milligrams of keppra a day and then had a seizure a few months later. The dr just bumps my medicing after each seizure. I take 3,000 milligrams now and just had a seizure in my sleep. Only thing that bothers me about keppra is how tired it makes me. Never had the depression issues or any other serious issues. If it works for you then I would take it. Not sure if it is working for me since i have one or two a year.

Keppra XR
I was happy to read your story. I am also taking Keppra XR and don't like the way it makes me feel either. Like I'm on drugs or something. I also stopped taking this product without telling my DOC too. I try to be as natural to eating the right foods and trying not to take any type of drug if I can do without it like aspirin or other over the counter medication. So far no seizures for me and it has been a few weeks now too. My reason for taking Keppra is because I had an AVM and had brain surgery to remove the AVM. I believe I had a seizure but I'm not sure if I just passed out one day before it was discuffered about the lession in my brain. I wish you drug free health as I am wishing for also hoping to get too! I hope this encourages you and was useful for your reading.

Mir,

Thanks for the story. It helps to know otyhers are going through the same thing. I have learned a lot in the past because i used to take the dr's advice over my own. But what do they know over us who actually live in our body's right? Today i have a follow up with the PA because my doc is and has been out of town most of the summer. I'm a litle worried about what he is going to say because I don't really have support of people but my husband in how I'm trying to naturally handle seizuress. I'm hoping when my real doc gets into town he will understand since he is more into controlling side effects with my case than seizures. Thanks again!

More information on Tonic Clonic (Gran Mal) seizures and Keppra
Hi guys. I had a Tonic Clonic seizure (the term they are now using for Gran Mal seizures) within a week of eachother this year. The Doctors Placed me on Phenytoin (Dilantin) and after about a week, I developed a nasty allergic reaction to the stuff i.e. hives, swollen throat and lips, puffy eyes, etc. The doctors told me to wean myself off of it and gave me allergy medication while also placing me on the Levetiracetam (Keppra) 500 mg 2x a day and 250mg 4x a day. The allergic reaction got worse and I immediately removed myself from the Dilantin and began only taking the Keppra. I followed up with a MRI with the injection for the focal point enhancement and and an EEG along with multiple other follow ups and blood tests, all which have come up inconclusive and with normal results with no relation to the seizures. I do not have medical coverage and have done all of this without the help of a Neurologist based on the long wait list in my city for a Neurology Clinic and the large expense of a Neurology office visit. The only times that I have had a seizure since I have been on the Keppra is when I had a day off work and slept in late and forgot to take my meds. If you don't take these medications for a single day once your body has become used to taking them, YOU WILL HAVE A SEIZURE. Do not just completely remove the medicine from your system unless instructed by a doctor or neurologist (which they would never just take you off of the meds completely). Aside from that, no neurologist will even consider taking a patient off of an anti-epileptic medication unless they have been 5 years free from seizures or have had some terrible reaction to the meds, in which case they will switch you to another medication. I have found that I experience mood swings on occasion and extreme drowsiness on occasion, but other than that, this medication has worked for me and enabled me to keep my license under Medical Probation which will last 6 months - 3 years under favorable conditions (seizure free). I have SLOWLY decreased my dosage without a doctor's approval to 250 mg a day due to my personal belief that I do not have problems with epilepsy and only have seizures currently when I don't take this medication for a day. I hope to one day be completely free of this medication, but must remain on it in order to keep my driver's license. This medication has worked well for me and I hope that any of the information I provided was helpful or informative. You're not alone out there! Any person is capable of having a seizure and during times of high stress and lots of anxiety, many people have an onset of seizures and then they never occur again!

Medicine for epilesy-epilim
Hi hi...i am new to here, just wana know what is the side effects for epilim? Because my dad consume on this medicine (200mg X 4 daily)to control the seizures 3-4 years ago until recently the doctor add on the medicine to 200mg X 6 daily that mean 1200mg a day.
According to doctor ,having 800mg a day is not enough to control my dad's seizures as the seizures still come once in a month. After my dad start consumed the medicine (1200 mg daily),i feel there is something wrong on my dad. He can sleep whole day and then only wake up on the time for meal which normally he won't do this. Then he also claimed that he feel more tired and "trouble" with unstable walking. We send him hospital bt doctor say there is nothing wrong on his medicine and claimed that epilim won't cause sleepy to my dad. So, my dad discharge out bt then still having lot of sleep the whole day trough. Anyone can tell me why my dad will like this?? Pls ?? i so worried about him because my dad gt heart failure problem , hypertension too. Thanks a lot
