Q: Infection in uterus aggravated by trans vag ultrasound ?

Ok......as many of you on here know I have been ttc since my m/c in July of this year. Well yesterday I had to go for an ultrasound because the doc was concerned that I may have an infection in my uterus. The reason that they think this is because I had some blood work done a couple of weeks ago and it shows that I have some inflammation going on somewhere in my body and they are not sure where it is coming form.

I find that since my m/c I just haven't felt right and it seems that I still have cramping even when I am not on my monthly cycle. So yesterday when I got my ultrasound the I was pretty tender inside (trans vaginal) but I was just thinking that it was because I still had a little pee left in my bladder. BUT later on in the evening I was in so much pain. It hurt in my lower abdomen and in my my lower back. I haven't felt anything like that ever.

I was just wondering if anything like this has happened to anyone on here before. I am a little worried that maybe I do have something going on in there and maybe it was aggravated by the trans vag ultrasound. Also it is right around the time of ovulation for me so I am wondering if that has anything to do with it.....

I appreciate everyone's comments.........and hope that someone may be able to give me a little advice.

P.S sorry the post was so long stretch

It could have been an ovarian cyst. Our bodies naturally produce them during/after ovulation. They can and will cause sensitiviy and pain. If they did an transvag, they could have applied pressure (probably did for measurement) which can cause irritation. They also could have ruptured one, or you previously had one rupture and that is what is causing the pain/cramps mid cycle.

It also could have something to do with infection or a bigillion other things. I don't want to undermind any things. However, in MY experience, this is a very real possibilty.

The tech did take a lot of measurements.....and at one point when she was applying pressure she asked me if I was tender there so an ovarian cyst would make sense. I really hope that I don't have an infection because my hubby thinks that we should stop ttc for right now just in case there is something wrong he doesn't want me to get pregnant then have to go through losing another baby. He makes alot of sense but I was just hoping that I would be pregnant by the time my due date from my last pregnancy comes around (dec 25)

Do all women get cysts? And would they cause me any trouble getting pregnant? I haven't had a problem getting pregnant in the past. But I am wondering if this is something new for me.

I'm sure the doctor will tell you if you need to take a break from ttc. But I can see where your dh would be concerned.

Cysts....ugh. Yes, all women get them. We produce them as our follicles (eggs) mature. Once one is mature enough to be fertilized, the cyst ruptures releasing the mature follicle (ovulation). (this cyst is called a luteal or functional cyst) Then the cyst remains in order to produce progesterone (the hormone responsible for our raised temp after ovulation as well as all our pms symptoms) And the cyst will remain after an egg is fertilized in order to produce the hormones needed to sustain a pregnancy (hense the nasty 1st trimester). They are completely normal/natural and will not cause a problem with conceiving. After the egg is release and NOT fertilized or does not implant, the body reobsorbs the cyst (which is why your temp falls) and you start your period.

However, not everyone's body works that way. (Take me for example) Sometimes, your body doesn't get the message that there is no pregnancy, or it does get the message....and just doesn't care. And it does NOT reobsorb the cyst. This will cause a delayed luteal phase and thus postpone your period. Normally your temp will stay elavated. And you will need meds to 'restart' your cycle.

Sometimes, when you don't reobsorb the cyst, they continue to grow. This can cause a lot of pain (That's ME!!)

*And then there is PCOS (poly-cystic-ovarian-syndrom) This is when the body produces multiple cysts. This can and will prevent ovulation (thus pregnancy) However, I'm not well informed on this condition and I'm not sure why it happens (actually, I'm not sure anyone knows why it happens).

Anyway, sorry for the book. Did it make sence?

Holy crap girl you sure know your stuff Smile And yes it totally makes sense to me. Now I have a question for you and I am not sure if you will know the answer but I will ask anyway........

I had the ultrasound done on the 28th.....I was in pain the night if the 28th so obviously there was no way that I could bd with my dh. When I woke up in the morning the pain was pretty much gone. I did have a little mild cramping throughout the day but nothing out of the ordinary. So my dh and I did bd last night (the 29th)......do you think that I missed the egg then if the pain that I felt on the 28th was from a cyst rupturing?
