Hi. I am new here. I have tmj and my major problem is serious tinnitus. I have tried physio and a splint but it doenst help much. But recently I have been getting blurred vision and when I push on the top of my jaw bone (the bump that is next to the eye) my eyes twitch tingle and sometimes are painful, then my eyes water a lot. I have been reading some of the posts but have not come across anyone mentioning this. Does this happend to anyone else? Any solutions?

I really dont want it to get worse as the twitching and eye pain seems to be. Any comments? Thank you.

I thought I would add that my eye pain is incredibly severe after a heavy night of drinking. In the morning I am pretty much unable to do anything and ice my eyes all day as they are very sore. Does anyone else get this too?

you may want to back off the drinking. not a whole lot of us drink a lot. my eyes twitch but most of the time its cause im lacking magnesium or im tired. I have eye blackouts but that is because the jaw is near the trigeminal nerve which effects your vision.

i have a suggestion of a treatment for you. what all have you tried?

regarding the eye watering twitching pain, I have only tried physiotherapy where they do inside the mouth work to try to relax the muscles. the physio also works on the muslce in my neck. thats all Ive really tried. I wore a splint for a few nights but it really felt like it was realigning my bite for the worse because when I woke up only my front teeth would touch when I bit into something and it was very annoying. what is the treatment? When I do push on the jaw bone the eye twithces and hurts but then the pain actually does away. its as if I am reliving the muscle of something.
Since this is the result of tmj, is there any chance it could lead to serious eye problems or is it jsut annoyong like the tinnitus? Thank you for your time !

its more just annoying like tha tinnitus. You should try neuromuscular dentistry--it would properly align your bite and relax the muscles. I can find you a really good doctor.
splint therapy often feels like it aligns your bite for the worse and it also compresses the joint. since this sounds like more of a muscular problem im willing to bet that nmd can help and will. just let me know what you want to do and ill find you a doctor.

if you need anything you can pm me at any time

"splint therapy often feels like it aligns your bite for the worse and it also compresses the joint."

what do you mean by that? despite the feeling, it does help to align the bite right? because I'm planning on seeking splint therapy. Though my reasons for seeking treatment may differ from thenotic44 I get eye twitches sometimes as well.

no splints dont align the bite at all. they only put space between the teeth jaming the condyle up further into the joint.

i was reading this post and felt like i should add i have the same situation..my eye twitches too on occasion when i snap my jaw and i feel that the vision would be 100% again if my jaw was back 100% but will that ever happen...Basically i have a slight astigmatism now as a result of the dislocated jaw leading me to glasses...The eye that it effects is the opposite of the jaw...The right tmj affecting the left eye...Is that how it is for most people or is it the tmj on the same side of the eye it is effecting?

The reason why tmj is a muscular disorder i believe is b/c of the nerve compression...when the muscles are loosened the nerves in the trigeminal area are no longer compressed and there is less stagnation and hence more blood flow leading to less discomfort.

I dont think that the astigmatisim is from your tmd. An astigmatisim is the thickening of the cornea and is not effected by the jaw. the trigeminal nerve may be affected but not the eyeball itself.
