My 16yr old has braces, she went for her adjustment yesterday and her mouth is extremely sore. Besides a pain reliever is there anything else I can do for her?

You can actually expect that every time she has an adjustment. mine hurt all the time. You can put ice or heat on it. and keep the food soft. that will help. It may get easier for her as time goes on. Also--are her wisdom teeth coming in at all? i know that mine decided to come in at the same time i had braces and it was really no fun. you may want to look into having the wisdom teeth pulled if so. if they are it might be a good thing that she has braces because it will hold the rest of her teeth where they should be.

i used to get that every time i got an adjustment too, now i've got my braces off Very Happy can hardly eat for a while - i ate soft foods like yogurt etc and something like warmed lemonade is always nice Smile i don't know if it actually helps that much, but it's nice and i had it a few times...

hope this helped

like the other two posted, i had the same problem everytime i got an braces adjustment. it will take about a week to really get use to it, but the soreness should get better in 2-3 days. i never took any pain relievers and i did fine, so im sure she will be ok. if she doesn't get better in a weeks time then i would suggest contacting the dentist for help.

I experience the same thing, even when i don't get my wires changed. what kind does she have?? I've got smartclip (which are said to be more painful) however they are quicker and i decided that's what i wanted. Anyways i've used motrin, tylenol, advil and others (not all at once!) but they didn't really help, and the wax didn't either. What i've been doing after adjustments is using my tongue to press firmly against my teeth. I don't know if it's okay to do, but it helps me alot. What you could also do is tell her to just close her mouth firmly together, i know it sounds weird. But i asked my dentist about it and she said as long as i'am not doing it at night or grinding it would be fine. Hope she feels better,
