Q: major pain after discetomy and decompression - ideas?

hi well i had my operation in april had discetomy and decompresion i had an acciedent at work and it just got worse i had never had a problem with my back and its the worsed thing ive ever had i went to my doctors and the hospital so many times i lost count in febuary this year it just got worse i called my doctor to come and see me has i couldnt walk the pain was really bad i couldnt stand it i rang my doctor nearly everyday and all she could do was send me morphine i took that many i was seeing things has the weeks went by i started to loose controll of my bladder and bowels my doctor still didnt come then one night my mum rang for a doctor by chance it wasnt the same doctor he sent me stright to hospital within 2 hours id had an m.r.i scan and was told i need a operation stright away i was in that much pain i didnt care what they wanted to do anything to get rid of the pain so had the op and 8 months down the line im still on morphine and still in pain had an appointment with the surgoen yesterday and she explained that doing another operation will do me no good all she says she can do now is send me to pain clinic im so down has its getting worse by the day im stuck in my flat all the time im only 40 and feel like 80 can anyone please tell me if theres anything else that can be done i go to hospital 3 times a week to see a physiotherapy but thats doing no good

I'm sorry to hear that your experience has brought you so much discomfort!

I'm assuming you're not working.

Do the doctors know that morphine is addictive? Is there really nothing else they can do?

hi and nice to hear from you no im not working i was working but due to the accident at work that caused me the problem thats why i can i know the morphine is addicitive i try not to take it all the time some days ill take the tramadol in the day and take the morphine at night theres nothing more they can do apart from send me to this pain clinic like she said on monday an other operation is not gonna do me any good so im prying this pain clinic will just take some of the pain away

Hello Jinnymc,

So sorry to read about the terrible pain you are in. And most unfortunate that the surgery has not helped you.

I would highly recommend that you seek the advice of at least two more neurosurgeons or spine surgeons. You need to find out what advice other medical professionals will give to you.

May I ask where you live?

hi and thanks for for replying i live in manchester i have seen 3 different surgoens already and they all agree with each other so cant see anyone else saying any different im sorry to moan but im just so fed up with it i just want to get back to myself ive always been a get up and go person now im lucky if i make it out 3 times aweek and then im at the hospital for physio and the pool i got a reply back from a lady called heather on here and she has the same problem has me i cant even get a good nights sleep with it but hopeing the pain clinic can do something thanks for listening jinnymc
