Q: Boils...

Ok, so for the past week, Oni has gotten 2 boils on her butt. I know that they spread VERY easily, and CAN get out of control.

They start off as TINY little pimples, then morph into these GINORMOUS boils.

One of my good friends gave me a HUUGE box of size 6 diapers. And we decided to use them NOW, as opposed to keeping them until she fit them.
They were Huggies(the brand she NORMALLY uses) and fit her REALLY good. Well, we ran out, and went and bought her size 5's. The DAY that we put her back in the TIGHT A S S 5's, she started getting the bumps/boils.

Also, it seems, that as SOON as she ran out of her vitamins, these boils appeared about a week or so later.

Now, I know boils can be caused by a staph infection, OR an immune deficiency. She's not running ANY sort of fever, so I'm thinking staph is NOT the cause.

I'm not one to RUN to the Dr as soon as something odd comes up. So I'm trying to figure out how to treat this WITHOUT medical intervention.

I'm on my way to get her larger diapers, medicated cream, epsom salts(for frequent baths-to prevent swelling and encourage it to come to a head), and vitamins.

If anyone has ANY other treatments, I'm all ears!!

Sarah

She's not really to keen on staying still for things like that.

So I'm hoping 3/4 hot baths with Epsom Salts will be AS effective as the hot compresses!!!

Maybe I should move this into the parenting community chat?! LOL!!

I couldn't believe she was in a 6 either!!! The weight STARTS at 35lbs, and she's DEF not 35lbs...yet...lol. But her hips are really wide and 'baby GOT back!'!! HAHAHAHA!!

When we put her back into the 5's, they look baby thongs on her!!!! They're SOOOO small, and they leak alllll the time!!!!

ALthough I'm TOTALLY against it, I googled 'boils in babies'. And tight fitting diapers were a possible cause.

I've been giving her ibuprofin for the swelling and pain. The ONLY time they bother her, is during a diaper change when I put A&D on it.

Aww, poor girl. I hope they go away. Ethan wears a size 6 too. He doesn't weigh 35 lbs either. I think they need to change the weight on those things!

Sometimes googling freaks people out with some of the stuff that pops up.

I would let her soak in a bath and try to let it air out sometimes. You can always call your doc instead of running in and see what a nurse says.

Personally with the dangers of the staph infection I would take her to the dr. I rather be safe than sorry.

Hey!! My son has developed this really ugly pimple-like pus things below his belly button. They are getting bigger and there are more of them. I looked at pictures of boils and it looks like that is what he has. I would have NEVER thought about boils until I read this thread. Oh my. Those things are so ghastly looking.

I was hoping to avoid the doctor but reading about staph infection has freaked me out. I will be on the phone tomorrow. Boils, thrush, yeast...crap, what next.

Oh, the joys of parenthood.

what about MRSA? I heard that MRSA appears like that.

Sarah, Karin.. i'd take the baba's to the hospital.. MRSA is spreading like wildfire and HAS to be treated.

Atleast call the ER and ask if there is any cause for concern.

awww, Poor Oni! I hope she gets rid of them soon. I think I'd at least call a doctor or nurse to see what they suggest.
Poor Brian too, I hope he feels better too.

MRSA is medication-resistant staphalococcus aureus (spelled that wrong). It's a staph infection that cannot be treated with traditional courses of medication. It can be fatal if left untreated.
