Q: Yeast Infection thrush

Extremely eHealthy
I have been on a inhailed steroid like forever and just recently my dose was up'd to double then the one before. Well all week my throat has been feeling really funny and dry. Now from the beginning they tell you, after ou inhail it to rinse you mouth totally. I have not been a good girl and doing that. Well, last night I finally paid the piper. My tounge was all full of white spots and my throat felt like it was burning up. Today even worse. My whole tongue is white and I can hardly swollow or even talk. I have this once before after being given a large dose of IV anti-biotics and knew what it felt like. So I called my pulmonolgist and he called me in some throat losenges that I have to suck on 5 times a day for 14 days. Thrush is a yeast infection that you can get for strong anti-biotics or inhailed cortosteroids (like I am on). For those of you that have ever had thrush, know how painful it is and you can't even talk you tongue is so swollen and full of bacteria. So, I have spent much of today in bed taking Vicodin. It helps take some of the pain away. So, I too have a yeast infection, just at the other end of my body. LOL

I've never experienced something so severe, but I do know for a mild case of thrush, it is helpful to use a tongue scraper that you can via an aryuvedic store. In lieu of this device, you can also brush your tongue with a toothbrush to try to control the thrush and perhaps try to drink a glass of water with freshly squeezed lemon or organe juice in the mornings.

I got mine the same way. An injection of steroids, 1 series of antibiotics, inhaled steroids and possible oversue of listerine and crest pro health toothpaste. I am in it for the long run. Hopefully a few months of diet change will do it.

Can you be more specific about the diet change, edupat? What kinds of foods to eliminate and what kinds of foods to increase?

Foods to avoid and use for Yeast
Hi rooted:

Noted your question to edupat, and have an answer for you.
1. Drink 6-9 glasses of water daily
2. Consume more fresh fruits and veggies
3. Minimize fried and overly-fatty foods
3. Minimize dairy, wheat and white flour products and avoid all sugar and alcohol, which feed yeast (especially if you get cravings for them).

Another good idea is a colon cleanse to get rid of junk in your intestines without disrupting your bacterial balance, but eating lots of high fiber veggies like broccoli and greens can help.

Just did a colon cleanse. Will do another in another 3 months. I really liked the effect of the cleanse...it's amazing how emotional it can be. Thanks for the tip about diet and food changes.

Any suggestions for dealing with sugar cravings?

Sugar Cravings
Well, about the best thing I've done for sugar cravings is to cut out all sugar, sucrose, etc. for 2 weeks--and use protein instead, like low carb whey protein shakes or a boiled egg or cheese & salad veggies. Making small meals every 3-4 hours also helps.

Once you get all sugar out of the diet (and all bread, pasta, grain-type carbs) for that length of time, then the cravings disappear. Tough in the beginning, though.

I have a chinese herbalist doctor also, who gave me some NEEM capsules to take for about 3 weeks, which actually kill the "bad boy bacteria" down as you're doing this, to keep them from coming back.

It helps me to envision "leaky gut" syndrom from the rooted yeast bacteria to keep the nerve up to starve the suckers when they beg for sugar. None of us wants leaky gut!

Yeast Infections.
Is it true that yeast infections can kill people that are NOT immunocompromised? Because I was told that if you have a vaginal yeast infection...and you can't rid of it....it spreads....and will eventually kill you. I would like to know the correct answer to that.

Shocked Wow. I've never heard that...but I'm interested. What's the idea...that you become less able to fight off other infections? I think that a yeast infection is rather benign, myself.

Yeast CAN SPREAD.
Everyone has yeast in their body, but its supposed to be a very small amount. I was told that yeast can spread by forming roots in your body. I would think that the amount that it spreads depends on your immune system and how much sugar you eat. Yeast actually releases mycotoxins which scientists are actually connecting to auto-immune diseases. I read several articles online about the connection between yeast overgrowth and leaky gut syndrome, fibromyalgia, and other medical problems. I have had this yeast problem for years...and you know what...I do not feel healthy. I don't feel the way I used to. Trust me, I would rather believe that yeast is harmless, but according to what I read, feel, and have heard, it is dangerous.

Possible Hazards

One such medical condition that may develop as a result of an untreated yeast infection is a blood condition called sepsis. This is a deadly condition of the blood stream that results from the spread of bacteria.

One other medical condition that may develop as a result of an untreated yeast infection is vulvovaginal candidiasis. This diagnosis is pronounced when a woman has three or more yeast infections of the vagina during the course of one year. It is very important that your untreated yeast infection be addressed by your gynecologist or family doctor.

Right that makes sense. I was just diagnosed with preliminary HPV that showed up on my PAP. The doctor prescribed a liquid multivitamin and colostrum, which are both for immunity. Thanks for bringing this up. I need to take care of it once and for all!
