I've had mild and moderate (but irritating) acne since I was about 14. I'm now 22 and it's not at it's worst (well, my back is) but it's still getting me down. -_-

Affected:
-Back (very bad)
-Face (mild - but I pick >_<)
-Chest (mild - moderate)

Over the years, I've tried/been on:
-Oxytetracycline
-Amoxycillin
-Erythromycin
-Adapalene (gel): helped a little at first, then kinda stopped.
-Dianette: caused mood swings.

This week I got the results of a blood test for PCOS, which came back negative. My hormones are fine, everything's normal.

I've been seeing a dermatologist, she perscribed Differin cream which I've been on for the last 4 or so months, alongside Lymecycline. It hasn't done much to help, although the Lymecycline seems to reduce the acne severity on my back, or at least reduce the occasional swelling.

I just think enough is enough with the antibiotics, I've been on them for the last 6 years, pretty much. If they were going to work, they would have, right? Besides I tend to find that they just depress me, no idea why but my mood and emotions go hectic when I'm on them for over a week.

Now I'm on Duac cream, so I'm hoping it will work. If not... I am seriously wondering if there's any way to cure me of it. It seems like nothing works. -_-

So Duac failing, does anyone have any idea why it's so persistent with me? I really want it gone. =/

Hi,

you just have to change your diet - see earlier post.

Oh please, diet has almost nothing to do with acne. Eat as much chocolate as you want.

There is one other medicine I know of that you haven't tried: Accutane. At your age the risks are very low, as long as you're not clinically depressed.

The only thing that helps me with my moderate acne is washing twice a day, every day, and remembering to put on lotion afterwards!! You have to remember that it's not just grease that causes acne: it's skin cells clogged inside of your pores. That can happen on dry skin and greasy skin. Lotion also keeps the acne you do have from peeling which keeps YOU from picking at it Wink

Hi,

I had severe acne, and cured it by changing my diet. I am completely clear, but if I change my diet back to one high in saturated fat (and the items included on my other post), after a short while, my acne will return.

The change is difficult (it took me years to work out how to be clear). I agree that changing one ot two items is unlikely to make any difference.

I'm posting this not for any personal benefit, but out of kindness in the hope it might help.

Ive tryed many things, and most things just seem to either not work, or work for awhile than stop. The only one ive tryed that i got to work for a long period of time is called Natures Cure, its a cream and pill that you can find at stores like walmart. but you have to constintly be using it or your acne will come back. They also have a spray that goes on your back or chest and it worked for me to.

I've been having severe acne, both on my face and my back. And I've been seeing alot of dermatologists for the past 7 years, and alot of oral and tropical antibiotics too. Most of the time they seem to work only for awhile then stop. And a few months ago, I couldnt stand seeing my face a the acnes are getting worse, so I decided to give it another chance and try another dermatologist. I explained everything to her and she gave me Isotretinoin (accutane) pills - this medicine is reserved for the most severe forms of acne. It's very effective, but people who take it need close monitoring by a dermatologist because of the possibility of severe side effects. they will make u sign an agreement, and u are not allowed to get pregnant during the treatment.

First it made ur skin and lips sooo dry that u had to drink almost all the time and use vaseline on ur lips. but then all the acnes will stop popping out, and the old ones drying up and dissappears. It really really works but sadly I had to stop the treatment after a couple of months because it was very costly in my country. One pill costs about 8 dollars and u need to take it everyday, plus the dermatologist wants to see me every 14 days so with all the pills and treatment price, (around 200 dollars for every 2 weeks) so i can't afford it much longer n had no choice but to stop.

After a couple of weeks without the pills my skin gradually gets oily again and all the acnes starts coming back. I tried a cheaper option, and bought Isotretinoin (accutane) in the form of cream from the pharmacist, but it didn't turn out as well as the pills, and my acnes are still here.

I'm currently using a cream called SkinOren, also from the pharmacist, and it's quite effective in helping to treat existing acnes, they'll dissappear after a few days, but this cream didn't quite help PREVENT the new ones from popping out.

So... there, you have quite alot of options. If you can afford the expensive treatment, try ask ur dermatologist about the medicines i've mentioned. Good luck. Smile

Use Head & Shoulders CLASSIC CLEAN shampoo as a body wash once a day. It cleared my body acne in about a month and it keeps me clear if I continue to use it everyday.

I've been using an otc regiment from Merle Norman's (makeup brand, very prestigious) for about 2 1/2 weeks now. I do it at least once a day if not twice. My pimples are almost gone from my lower cheeks but have migrated to my jawline. I'm still working on it; the hardest thing not to do is PICK at them!! Gaaargh!! The cheeks are now mostly just red spots and bumps which is a major improvement from pussing volcanoes. This I can cover with makeup.
