Q: Dealing With Someone Else's Stress

Hi. My girlfriend has stopped taking her anti-depressants, Fluoxetine, because she believes they make her put on weight, and she claims that makes her more stressed. Although she won't agree with me, she seems to be getting more stressed since stopping (surprisingly enough). For one reason or another she hasn't had a proper night's sleep this week. This morning she was crying because she couldn't afford to go out clubbing with her friend (I did offer to give or lend her the money but she didn't want to owe me any more). It's not something she does often so I understand why she's upset, but she acting as if it is the end of the world.

Any general advice on the situation would be greatly appreciated.

Well first of all, her medicine very well could have been causing her to gain weight and make her stressed- even if the extra stress is just because she's gaining weight. That's a big deal. And she probably isn't sleeping right because of going of her meds- withdrawal effects will be setting in (probably explains the emotional state she's in right now)

I would kindly suggest she see a psychologist about maybe trying a different kind of medication or therapeutic treatment- something without the effects she was experiencing.

And most of all, patience and understanding are important. It sounds like you're doing well though, keep it up. It's hard to see our loved ones suffering.

It may take her awhile that she needs to take something. Stoppin mid stream is not a good thing. I would not push it. Just let her make the decission herself. And believ me, it will come.

Wanted You to Know I Came Back
Good Advice found its Way to You Already. When I was going Through the Peak of My Depression/Stress/Anxiety and I laid Awake I Needed everything Real Quite, no TV, Music, Talking until I Relax and fall Asleep. I had my Worries on My Mind and couldn't stop Thinking of them. Somethings only for Two or Three hours Before I would Go to Work but I would Sleep in my Car for a Half hour on lunch Brake and that Helped me make it Through the Day.

Do you both have any focus for your future? Is she just a party girl, there are more ways to have a good time than just party, I've done that scene. One night they left the park lights on so I played handball instead of partying. Yea eveyone wondered where I was that night. I was having a different type of fun. There is more things to do. Now there are places like Borders Books have some Latte and maybe meet some other people you may want to consider as friends.
