Dislocated Jaw For 6 Years - Anxiety rooted in TMJ joint
Posted: 11-21-07 20:59pm

|
|
it was about the time i was 17 years
old...i am 23 now...I used to crack my
jaw...i used to pop my jaw with the palm
of my hand while i had braces on to try to
"fix" my underbite
when in fact i made the mistake of
destroying myself in this life...I used to
be put down for having a funny bite and my
parents used to say to me jokingly someone
needs to pop you in the mouth.....they
were joking but i did not know what i did
was dislocate my jaw at the time out of
frustration with my bite..I just thought i
was making it go in more...THinking back
after doing this i was in fight or flight
response for literally the past 6
years...Starting at 17 i was becoming
almost delusional after this happened...I
was nausiated all day I had palpatations
in my head a severe migraine on the right
side 24/7 i thought i just had anxiety
issues...My bite was laterally misplaced
but i didn't know it at the time...It did
not align with the top part of my
mouth...I felt like i was dying...I
somehow got into a decent college and that
is where i started taking prescriptions
drugs to deal with the anxiety attacks...I
know for a fact now my distorted thinking
was caused by my dislocated jaw but at the
time i had no clear reason with the 24/7
pain in my head with my jaw but
subconsiously i thought they had to be
related but how?..I just knew something
was messed up in me i kept complaining of
anxiety and 24 hour head pain...There was
no clicking at all no cracking in my joint
i never did any damage i thought i would
have realized it wouldn't I?...Just 24/7
headaches but i had no idea where they
came from..I started to take more and more
drugs b/c the anxiety would not be
calmed...I went from max dose of paxil to
max dose of zoloft...I even had a bout of
cocktails with benzos and even an
anti-psychotic drug called
risperdal...That is where i ultimately
became impotent...My sex drive no longer
worked but i didn't think it was the drugs
as much as the pain and anxiety...I
thought it was from the pain and thought i
was going to die anyway but after reading
about the drug i know it was from the
drug...A year ago November 2006 to be
precise just at the verge of suicide i
figured out my problem was my bite from a
website i was reading about how the top
and bottom need to be alighned...I cracked
it with all my force and heard a
pop...Tons of blood rushed to the left
side of my head and my arm went numb for a
week...I used to have twitches in the
fingers of that arm too from my jaw...My
eyes became similiar in size but are still
a little off...I cold turkeyed the drugs i
was taking at the time never to go back on
them again after taking them non stop for
3 and a half years...My psychiatrist
couldn't believe it and i stopped going to
one...I went to a surgeon after this
thought my life was saved...He said he was
going to do invasive surgery where he
would correct my underbite after seeing
mri showed degenerative arthritis on the
top and bottom joints of the right
side...I went to another surgeon said not
to do it if there is not significant
pain...I never got it done...What i do
need done is to fix the significant pain
on the right side of my face still it
progressively has gotton worse and
contstantly clicks and blood flow is
messed up i can tell..But i don't want
invasive sugery its bs...I feel like my
whole right side of my body is in fight or
flight again and there is tremendous pain
all througout have IBS breathing problems
and compression and pressure on the right
side of my head...I am currently seeing an
orthosurgeon who said if worse comes to
worse i need arthroscopy...I feel like a
living wreck right now...I missed out on
pleasure just 24/7 pain for the past 6
years...And the drugs screwed up my sex
life forever...i feel like there is no
point of living now...The reason i am
sharing this is to say i know for a fact
that anxiety problems are rooted in the
TMJ joint...It screws with
emotions...Causes an over-excitation of
the nerves that are in the
joint...Probably causes adrenaline
overload and over-taxes the body...All the
neurotransmitters over-fire and in time
the body just starts to lose it..just wish
i knew this all before when i was 17...Now
i am trying to heal but never heard of
anyone having a dislocated jaw for so
long...The worse part is the drugs causing
the sexual dysfunction after
discontinuance on top of the pain so i
have terrible pain no sex life and am only
23.

have you tried neuromuscular dentistry
paird with a chiropractor? i think that
this could help you immensily. lots of
people have had a dislocated jaw for
longer.
also--is there any possibility that you
have fibromyalgia? sometimes that causes
some of the things that you have said. you
should vistit our fibro forum as well as
our anxiety forum.
I can help you find a good doctor. just pm
me and ill help you out.

just the other day i figured out
something...that most of the pain that
kept getting worse and worse started to
get better probably 50% when i was taking
calcium and magnesium supplements...I am
going to try out msm and
glucosamine...part of the problem is
inflammation and the other half is
pressure against my nerves which are due
to the dislocation..
I am hoping it somehow can regenerate
nerve fiber and get rid of bad scar tissue
so my jaw stays recaptured as i can kind
of recapture it but it won't stay in place
for more than 2 seconds...I know my left
eyelid droops and when my jaw snaps in it
goes back up and i have palpatations in my
eye and left hand a lot...
I know the hormonal problems came when i
took the drug risperdal...I took it for
like 2 months in 05 with paxil b/c i
couldn't calm down and i was seriously
sick and had so much pain...I was horny as
hell until i took that drug and know other
people on the internet this happened to
even tho i didn't take it that long..But i
can't rule out chronic pain and stress as
not allowing me to get it back either even
tho it probably would be fine today if i
never took the drugs..

yes those things will help. i dont take
any drugs--natural suplements are a good
thing to take.

hey dyanmatteson do you have any idea if
the tmj disc can ever heal and be
recaptured if kept in place..the
inflammation i once had is now gone about
100% since taking msm glucosamine and
chondroitin forumulas in just 3 days but
the main problem that i still have which
is worse than anything is the pressure
pain which is 10 times worse than
inflamation pain...I constantly am
snapping my jaw to get it in a certain
position where it is partially or almost
fully recaptured but then it goes out
again in like 5 seconds..when it is out of
place i have breathing problems and my
stomach is a knot and it feels like 1000
bricks are pushing against my skull which
is the feeling i had for years...When it
is recaptured after playing with it for a
while those problems are relieved about
80-90 percent depending on how well i get
the jaw back in position it but it does
not stay recaptured and the night guard i
wear feels pointless b/c no pressure is
ever relieved unless i snap it back in
place and the guard doesn't do a good job
at keeping it in place even tho it was
custom made. I am wondering whether a 24
hour splint is necessary or is surgery the
only way to fix a disc that has difficulty
recapturing...It feels like the padding
between the discs has degenerated which is
why i cant recapture it everytime i touch
my jaw...I feel like i am my own
chiropractor after studying my face and
looking at any assymetries...I look at the
ears and eyes and then i get more accurate
snapping it...THis has been going on so
long tho and i am really getting fed up
with the pressure it is causing on my body
and it is ruining my life still..

The disc can heal and it definately can be
recaptured. I did this by having an
arthrocentesis----they basically knock you
out and drain the fluid(if need be) and do
some pysical therapy on the jaw. a 24 hour
splint is not necesary.sometimes splints
make things worse and sometimes thery are
helpful--I wouldnt go by what you can
feel--it can be misleading.
I think you should seriously look into
neuromuscular dentistry--i can find you a
good one. and also a chiropractor. it will
help
keep your chin up--dont let this kick you
in the butt--kick it in the butt.

thanx for the speedy response...
arthrocentesis sounds like arthroscopy but
i read arthroscopy is more invasive..i
need mine manipulated so the disc just
stays recaptured somehow...otherwise it is
pointless...I was thinking of arthroscopy
but i have read people getting their disc
sewed in and having more problems so i
don't know how this would work but maybe
manipulating could work somehow.....If its
off just a hair there is a lot of tension
or muscular pain in my head and all
throughout my body...At least the
inflammation is gone but i rather have
gotten rid of the main pain which is the
root cause..chiropractor and neuromuscular
dentist is probably the way to go...i'm
assuming you have gone to one or both so
one question i have is are they usually
better than orthosurgeons in treating tmj
b/c i am going to an orthosurgeon now and
he doesn't do anything but waits till i
snap my jaw in position and carves the
splint...I don't see how anyone can help
more than that but maybe im selling them
out short...i think i do have fibromaygia
from this crap...The jaw controls so much
and i have involuntary movements in my
left hands fingers once in a while and my
left eyelid droops and when i snap my jaw
in it goes away..Muscular pain all
throughout too..

okay here is the deal ever since i fixed
the inflammatin problem the muscle problem
is so much easier to feel and
manipulate...I am pissed so much still tho
b/c it is popping and cracking like crazy
and then it gets jammed and i have bricks
against my skull and body...I am seriously
fed up with this crap if i have to live
another year with a dislocated disc that
is causing severe muscle pain against my
whole body i am going to shoot myself..
I am so desperate for relief right now is
there anything i can take that isn't a
drug to relieve muscular pressure besides
constantly snapping my jaw...the pain is
literally 24/7 i don't get relief...My dad
keeps telling me to do what they say in
this book that he got me...and i keep
complaining and he says he doesn't care
about my pain then said he does but i know
he doesn't..
Pain-Free-Revolutionary-Stopping-Chronic
But the thing is i think this book is a
bunch of bull b/c i have a dislocated disc
not just your ordinary tmj..
What do you recommend for muscular pains
that are from the dislocated disc...It
also causes breathing problems and i have
no appetite b/c my stomach muscles are
being contracted somehow due to the tmj
joint...its uncontrollable i even try
breathing exercises but its so hard when
there is so much pressure against the
head...
Is there a supplement that helps relieve
muscle contraction and tightness or is the
only way to fix it through surgery
manipulation b/c i don't even care that
its dislocated if there was no muscular
pain but that is destroying me...I need
things that probably increase cerebral
blood flow too...Piracetam kind of works a
little then gives out on me after more
than 2 times use...

arthroscopy is when they put a camera
through a small slit in your face.
arthrocentesis is much less invasive
basically they only insert needles and
make a very small slit--only one stitch.
i pmd you the name of a doctor that can
help you. from what you tell me it sounds
that it is more muscular than anythign.
and pleas do come over to the fibromyalgia
forum. Im moderator over there too.

thanx for your help you've been
great...Yes it is completely muscular pain
b/c i have no inflammation anymore just
weight on my entire body from one small
freakin joint that is slightly out of
position..I figured out this morning how
to manipulate it much better and realize
that when i recapture it almost completely
i can now make it stay as my mouth becomes
tighter on the right side again but the
problem is the muscular pain still ranges
from very severe to just somewhat
severe...I also realize a bite splint is
useless b/c it feels worse when my mouth
is opened more...I also have an underbite
so i have a weird case. I did research
that sometimes people have less pain when
the disc is not recaptured again but that
is not the case for me...Mine has to be
perfect to feel good again...
I feel like my joints have gotten stronger
and less grating sounds in only 4 or 5
days of taking MSM and glucosimine
chondroitin...I take a lot even tho i read
to start kind of low on MSM due to
toxins...Can those supplements regenerate
the nerve fiber sheet between the joints
that needs to be regenerated so badly so
the recapturing is able to improve and
muscular pain goes away? I read that it
usually can't be regenerated unless one is
very young which is why scientists are
working on a stem cell approach but i have
read a psuedo scar tissue can develop
which im guessing would be nearly as good?
Neuromuscular dentistry sounds like the
only viable option...Do the machines they
hook up to you show if you have weight and
tension all througout b/c mine would be
off the charts in the pressure it is
causing on my body. The orthosurgeon i am
seeing did nothing to help me so far
probably made this worse as the last time
i saw him he had to completely change the
splint and said i have a dual bite which
is not true it was just completely out of
socket.

the machines are hooked up to a computer
and any muscle that is stretched out
stressed out or not in their proper place
will show up. if there is anything amiss
it will show up on the computer.
the msm and glucosamine(sp) is to help
your body heal and regenerat tissue so yes
it will help out.
nmd is the only thing that has ever helped
me. I was lost till i found nmd.
yes a psuedo disc can develope from scar
tissue and yes it works well. there are
also other things like muscle grafts that
work but that requires surgery and wed
like to keep you all in one peice:)
if you need anything you feel free to pm
me anytime.Im always here --well for 2
hours a day except saturday and i will do
all i can to help you. keep me updated.

right now it seems like my main problem is
blood flow/compressed joint and nerves...I
snap the joint in and there is pulsating
on my right side...i am so close to fixing
this completely after getting rid of the
inflammation but it seems even when i
recapture it there is still blood flow
problems although less after the snap but
that is what i really need to fix more
than anything as that is the cause of the
muscular pain througout 24/7 and i can
tell that i have digestive problems b/c of
this i am positive about it..This joint
creates a cascading effect on the whole
body and i have to go to school and do a
bunch of work and i need to be pain free
to do these things again...
My parents said i can go to the NMD
specialist but now i am having doubts
again...The only way to fix this is to get
the blood flowing again and recapturing
the disc otherwise the compression is
gonna kill me...Can the NMD do that as a
long term goal theoretically?
Last night i took ginko biloba with
aspirin and i think i had some intestinal
bleeding as i spit out some blood due to
the blood thinning effect..I'll never
combine them again...I just need the right
side to get more blood flow tho i am dying
from that...Isn't there a machine that i
can get that can fix blood flow problems
and help to repair the joint and i read
NMD uses them to flush toxins...Also do
heat compresses help for blood flow as
well?
I am so damn close to getting my life back
it feels like a few inches away but i
guess thats all it takes to continually
ruin me...

yes use heat--it helps with the pain and
getting the blood flow going. you will
have doubts about any treatment--take it
from me ive been through hundreds of
failed treatments. there is something that
will work. you will never know if you dont
try it. go to them and put your head in
their hands. the person i sent you to is
good. there isnt anything to worry about.

are you still in pain now dyan or has
arthroscentesis relieved it? Did you say
NMD was not helpful for you? Sometimes i
think i need fluid drained as something is
being stabbed constantly but is that just
for inflammation or that stabbing tension
pain as well?
i noticed my face isn't symmetrical at all
when i was younger it was but it has been
asymmetrical for about 6 years and my nose
eyes and ears are off alignment...When i
try recapturing it it still looks off and
the pain of stabbing dullness and tension
never subsides...I used to have perfect
symmetry but not anymore seems like some
minor or maybe major bone degeneration as
the mri said last year there was
degeneration in both bottom and top right
mandibles...
Can NMDs determine the baseline position
of the true natural bite or can only a
chiropractor? B/c i know you recommend
both so i am curious about this..
Also if NMD are relieving pain i'm
guessing the machines they use have to
determine the optimal position of your
bite and eventually whatever they do will
guide everything back to symmetry and help
the jaw regenerate...

nmd did work for me---i had a rare case so
i needed to go further. I had an
arthrocentesis but it didnt do anything
for me as it didnt fix the problem--my jaw
being too big for my head.---a
chiropractor does nothing with the
bite--the nmd does and can get the
baseline postition of the bite a chiro
only manipulates bone and does not have
the equipment to get a baseline.
that stabbing pain i thing is tension and
the inflamation isnt helping. are you
taking any kind of antiinflamitory? I
think you should.
yes the nmd is releiving pain and beleive
me things will get better and your
symmetry will come back. make sure you get
enough sleep--this is when your body
heals.
and remember that mris are only roughly
20% accurate.

Should i sleep on my back?...I always
sleep on my stomach and on the side of the
dislocation but maybe i'm not helping it
heal b/c of that...Also the night guard i
have is pointless b/c i have tons of
pressure that is only somewhat reduced
when it is recaptured so should i still
wear it as it seems to make no
difference..
Can you provide any links that say mris
are only 20% accurate? As my parents
didn't believe me one time i told them
this was a while ago as i saw the same
thing before...
Also anti-inflammataries i don't think i
need...The inflammation is gone basically
100% from msm and glucosimine which i take
everday now that stuff is unreal...I just
have lots and lots of pressure on the
right side of my skull down to my neck and
entire right side...My head slants my
posture is messed up due to the assymetry
of my face that degenerated and when i
recapture it there is less of a deviation
from the center of gravity (optimal
position of my face before it was cracked)
But it feels like there is a large
tightening and it causes me fear as i
don't notice it much then it causes a
strange panic attack and then sometimes it
will feel like a bulldozer against my
skull when it goes a lot out of the
recaptured position...It is weird bc the
pain/pressure discomfort is 24/7 and
sometimes i can not feel as much even when
it is there but if i pay attention the
pressure is never gone and is obstructing
blood flow and sometimes i get shocks of
blood and it feels like a knotted string
was loosened to allow blood to flow again
and it goes right back and is knoted again
and that is usually rare usually when i
run a lot or take a blood thinner and my
jaw is in its recaptured position...If my
jaw is just recaptured there is still that
feeling so that alone is the fix.. I also
hear snapping in my face that is super
loud when it goes back in u can hear it
from a mile away which is so scary...
Sometimes i really think my problem is
unfixable as my bite is so messed up its
so rediculous and i had braces correlated
to my dislocated bite when i was cracking
my jaw...
My main concerns are cerebral blood flow,
shallow breathing, digestion
They say there are people walking around
with dislocated jaws and are fine but i
think they just don't know what the
problem is and were never diagnosed...Any
displacement of the head throws the entire
body off in posutre has cascading effects
all over...

sleep on your back or your side---a very
respectable surgeon is where i got the
information on the mri i will look for
some visible proof.

im pretty convinced the only problem i
have is it feels like something is
pinching a nerve back there as when i snap
it in it goes from severe to moderate...Do
you think arthroscopy would help something
like this...It feels the bottom and top
joints are trying to connect and i feel
the rubber bandy feel when i recapture it
its like stretchy...You said your jaw was
too big for your head or something i feel
my right side is too small or not in..The
pressure is all by my ear and its affected
my stomach what do you recommend for
stomach tightening that is a result of the
pinched nerve? The whole body feels fight
and flight sometimes...Feels like right
behind the right ear blood flow is much
slower b/c of the compression and when i
snap it like i said just a tad more blood
flow...Sometimes i get shocks from it..
I think magnesium may help...I take ativan
occasionally and it helps too with the
stomach but i don't want to take ativan
that much or any drug ever again so i try
not to..
What do you think about the TENs machine
for stimulating blood flow?
I need natural muscle relaxants like
magnesisum i would assume but don't like
herbal stuff as they over-stimulate and
sensitize like drugs do too..
My father said to hold off on the NMD
after reading more about it but i think i
may give a call tomorrow if i can't think
of any other way to resolve the tension by
tonite..

heat is the best thing--and a hot bath.
Tens machine is wonderful--I have one
given to me by my surgeon but they are
expensive and you need to have a nmd show
you how to hook yourself up. My jaw kept
growing. Arthroscopy could help but it
gives a view of how things in the joint
look and it would be wise not to do that
until you use the nmd first. tmd does
effect the stomach. try to relax and baby
that jaw. use the heat and ice.
do use the magnesium. you can also post in
the alternative medicine forum to see if
anyone knows of a herbal muscle relaxer
that wouldnt over sensitize and over
stimulate.
you should also find some complete bone
and tissue ointment made by
dr.christopher--you can look for it at
supersuplements. It helps you to heal. and
regenerate.
let me know how things are going for you.

thanx so much...Yes i actually take hot
baths a lot now...I just did before i
wrote this...That ointmoint looks like
good stuff from the ingrediants..Do you
feel it stimulates blood flow and you wear
it all night?...I am probably going to get
that asap as well as the Tens machine...My
dad said he rather buy the TENS machine
than go to the NMD b/c its so expensive
and the TENS machine cost is like 2 visits
but maybe i'll do both...
Can you pm me a place to buy a good tens
machine and also where you got the
ointment? I'm sure many sites sell it im
wondering if you know of places with
better prices..
