Hello
I live in the Netherlands. Clean & modern hospitals, good (cheap) health insurance. The (some) doctors... you can put them uders a stone!
I had for 3 months strong back pains. Finally got an MRI and the doc told me I need an operation. Second day after the op I was out of the hospital, feeling quite OK. Then the pain came back, plus leg numbness which I havent had before. Got another MRI, they say there's nothing in there and I have to wait. Wait for what? Four weeks after the op I cannot sleep. Standing or sitting is bearable, lieing down is painful, every time I turn in bed I wake up in pain.
I asked a doctor in the USA about it, her first question was "did they prescribe anti-inflamatories?". The Dutch doc answer was: I was too in the USA and was shocked to see how many pills they take. But doc, I said, you dont answer my question. He gave me some ibuprofen...
Anyway. The diagnostic was Radicular syndrom L5-S1 on HNP L5-S1 left.
Any suggestion from an evil doctor would help. Thank you!
Zorba

I'm so sorry to hear about the bad time that you're having.

They're probably asking you to wait until the inflammation subsides or until your body recovers.

I have to agree with rooted. The numbness is a common side effect of back pain, usually because of nerve damage. Your doctors are probably waiting until your body heals completely from the operation before proceeding with new treatment.

I'm sorry the Dutch physicians feel that the USA physicians prescribe too much medication. They are probably right in many cases, but still sometimes you do need pain medication, especially with back pain.
