Q: Nose Cauterisation

Hi, I had my nose cauterised using silver nitrate two weeks ago and all seems ok except that in the week that followed I was aware of the nostril being slightly blocked.

I deliberately didn't touch it in case it disturbed the initial procedure and after seven days a small hardish black substance surrounded by a yellowy gooying substance freed itself.

Just wondering if this is normal and is it just the excess silver nitrate coming free or should I be concerned that the procedure failed?

Touch wood all is ok and I haven't had any further bleeds.

Any advice much appreciated!

silver nitrate stains after cauterization
I had my nose done yesterday and from what the doc said it sounds normal, but I want to know how to get rid of the silver nitrate stains that have run out from my nose. He said it would come off with water but it doesn't and the base of my nostrils are so sore. How can i go to work with black around my nose???

Hi,

I had the stains too and they didn't immediately wash off but they did disappear of their own accord after a day or two. Hope the procedure resolves your problems!
