Q: Is My Dr. On Crack?

I'm 34 weeks pregnant now and my Dr. was looking over my charts and noticed that I had gained a total of 42 pounds from the time I concieved to present. I'm 5'7 and I weighed a low 105 at start, now I'm close to the end of my pregnancy and I weigh 147 pounds... well that's a good thing I think and I believe that I look damn good too. I look very healthy and fit. Anyways, my Dr. turns to me and is asking me what I've been eating and if I "want a big baby" in a very rude tone of voice. I've always been insecure about my weight and that pissed me off something bad. I snapped back at him telling him that I have been eating good and healthy, (which is true) and I told him that I just want a healthy baby. He then told me I had better slow down try not to gain over a pound a weak from here on out. idk if it's my hormones acting up or what but what he said really hurt my feelings. Do you think he was telling me that because I could cause complications to my pregnancy if I kept eatting the way I have been and put on more weight? I do eat a ton of food a day but it's very healthy foods and juices/milks/water. What have you guys gained in your pregnancy and have you had a Dr. snap at you about your weight? Oh yeah I forgot that he gave me a diet to follow on.... stupid book is all low fat crap. I'm sorry but I'm staying with my Vit. D milk!!!!

Yeah my doctor told me I just needed to quit eating... I thought it was rude too.
Food was the only way to keep me from vomiting.

Let me guess...your doctor is male... haha.
They just don't understand like women do.

You're dr. doesn't seem very nice! You are at a perfect weight, its not like you are extremely overweight or something, I don't think there should be much concern!

When I was pregnant I gained 80lbs Shocked , which definately put me at an unhealthy weight...at that point I wished my dr. would help me but she didn't say anything about my weight during the entire pregnancy!

You sound like you are at a good healthy weight. I would give my left arm to weigh 147 pounds.

Buttface!

That's why I'd never have a male OB, they're so dang insensitive. I hated having a male gyno.

Blar. I'm the same height as you, and I've gained exactly as much as you have, lol. Though you were underweight to start with, weren't you? You weigh as much now as I did before I got pregnant XD

Well... I am not going to say it is too much weight. But there comes a point where the weight doesn't do the baby any good and will only serve to be a problem afterwards.

Even if you follow your doctor's orders, you would still gain 6 lbs. Add that to the 42 lbs you have gained and that would be 48 lbs. That is a HEALTHY amount of weight.

However, what is your doctor going to do if you gain 10? Or 20 more? Take away the baby's birthday? Not going to happen.
