Every doctor is different. Talk to yours about what you can expect in the coming weeks.
I wouldn't think s/he'd do routine exams at every appointment. They are not necessary at all.

Your situation is different, Suzy. Most doctors do not do exams because it can introduce infections and there is no need since generally knowing how 'far dilated' you are has no regard to when or how long your labor will be. Unless, of course, there are other high risk issues.

I know you're supposed to get that little swab done at around 35 weeks to see if you need antibiotics during labor (I think that's what it's for, at least). And that's not even really a vaginal exam, it's just a little swab that goes along the stretch of skin between the bottom of your vagina and you anus. (What is that skin called? On guys they call it the ABC [a** ball connection] but IDK if we have a name for it)
Aside from that, they usually won't do a vaginal exam unless something goes wrong because, like Ingi said, they're afraid of introducing infections.

Thank you, I was blanking on the name XD
I get that done on Tuesday. What's really fun is my OB is on vacation so some doctor I've never even met is going to do it.
