Someone please help me! For the past 8 months I have had a constant sore throat along with a stuffed up nose. I have been to my doctor numerous times and she keeps trying all of these different medicines and nothing is working! At first she thought that it was allergies, then she thought it was a sinus infection, then strep, then mono! But all my tests came back negative. I am so frustrated! I am in pain everyday! I cant stand it anymore! I am stuck drinking soup broth because it hurts to swallow. I am beginning to get depressed by this! I cant do anything I used to do because of the pain. I just sit in the house and cry. I cant sleep at night because my throat hurts so bad. I have notced white spots on my tonsils and red lumps all over the back of my throat. The pain wll start on one side, then start feeling beter, and start on the other side again.I am going crazy! If anyone knows what ths is, pplleeaassee help! Crying or Very sad

If you have insurance, tell your doctor you want your tonsils taken out. They don't do that as much as they used to, but they should. When I was young, I had constant problems with my throat, but since they took my tonsils out, I hardly ever have any pain at all.

I had the same problem last year for 4 months and they finally took my tonsils out. I had a constant sore throat that would go away while I was on antibiotics but a day and a half after I was off them it would come back worse. My doctor sent me to an ear, nose and throat doctor who took one look and said my tonsils need to come out. Since then, I have only gotten sick one time and its been a whole year. If your doctor is having problems diagnosing your problem I would definitely get a second opinion. I think you should really look into seeing an ear, nose and throat doctor. Having your tonsils out sucks, especially as an adult but to not be sick all the time is totally worth it. I'm glad I had it done Smile

I agree, second opinion, tonsils out & otherwise seek alternative medicines that might help, naturopathy, homeopathy, chinese herbal medicine.

Ok don't take this wrong but a friend of mine had the same thing. She had a strain of gc or chlamidia that she has for years with no vaginal
symptoms whats so ever. Finally they treated her for both and it all went away. It actually manifestated in her throat.

Food for thought

Thanks shawna, I have been back to my doctor for some blood tests and a throat culture and she found some antibiotic resistant bacteria in my cultures. She put me on sulfamethozone and trimethoprim. She doesn't know why my body isn't fighting this. Thanks for your info though! Confused

Check to see if you have oral thrush (which you can get from taking too many antibiotics, steroids, etc). I can't get rid of it. But when it first flares up (due to my immune system), my tongue and throat are very sore. It's a burning feeling. Nystatin can topically help it mildly relieve those systems; or diflucan, which is an internal medicine for a fungal infection.

Just a thought. Shocked

Re: Constant Sore Throat
Pmarie, I can truly sympathise with you. It sounds like I have the same sort of sore throat. I started getting the symptoms about fifteen months ago. I had the flu at the time so I thought it was from that when it was still sore a week or so later. I went off to the doctor and they gave me some antibiotics, that did no good so they did a swab of the throat to see if there was any bacteria there. All clear there, so they put me on another course of antibiotics but still no joy, in the end they sent me to a ears, nose and throat specialist. He checked down my throat to see if there were lumps to rule out cancer then after finding nothing sent me to a get a scan, I forget what the scan was called but they inject you with a warm liquid and then slide you into a machine that takes x-rays, or something like that, of the area they are checking out. That was again to rule out any cancer. Nothing shoed up and I still had know answer so I asked to see a second ears, noes and throat specialist and after he examined me he said the other specialist was right that there was no cancer and he thought it was post nasal drip. Well I have taken the product called fess that is to spray up your nose for post nasal drip but again no joy. Since then I have been to two other doctors and they have not offered any other solutions either, it is so frustrating!!!!! Just before I started having the throat problems I had some teeth extracted from the top and bottom of my right had side because I was getting pain there, my dentist said there was nothing wrong with the teeth but I said take them out because they were killing me. Anyway to cut the story short after they were taken out the pain, although a lot less, was still in my right hand jaw. I ended up going to a oral specialist and he said that the original pain in my teeth was not from the teeth but from fibro myalgia and myofascial pain, which is what I have had for the last fifteen years since I had a motor cycle accident. Now, as you know, when you are sitting there with your throat aching you try and think of things that could of caused it or be causing it. For me I am thinking maybe getting the teeth pulled out caused the more damage to the jaw which in turn has irritated the throat. I am only clutching at straws but when you have this pain continuously what else can you do. Have you had any jaw problem? I have tried all the things in alternative medicine books for sore throats but still no relief. I have had some times when the pain is not as intense but it is still there, other than that it is full on and driving me up the wall. Well I am sorry if I went on but maybe you recognise something that I am experiencing that you also are going through. I would love to hear back from you with your thoughts and if you have had any luck with finding out what is causing yours.
Take care and I really do hope you get some relief soon because I know how you feel.

Constant Sore Troat
Hi shane! Boy it sure is nice, for lack of a better word, to know that someone else out there is suffring with the same thing! I thought that I was going crazy! I have been to 2 ear, nose, throat docs also and they ran the same tests that you had and like you, nothing showed up.They kept telling me I was fine.I feel like screaming with frustration! I, like you, am in pain every day from a sore throat, so like you I am thinking that it is something irritating my throat "inside". The doctor asked me if I had been in any auto accidents ever.I told him yes, that I had been in a pretty bad one 14 years ago and had suffered severe whiplash. I had to go to physical therapy for 2 years to learn to turn my head again. The doc said that I might have fibromyalgia and myofacial pain, just like you.Iam so confused as to what this has to do with the "inside" of my throat? It feels like a constant raw, burning area in my throat that hurts all the way into my ear and head and through to my neck.It was an allover bad sore throat off and on all winter and then it is now just in one spot.I too had tooth pain like you and went to the dentist and tried to get them to pull a couple of teeth and the dentist refused to because he said they were fine.I am so happy that you read about me and told me abot you.I don't feel so all alone now!Has your doctor told you if there is anything to treat the fibromyalgia? My doctor wont say, he is very vague.I am so depressed at the thought of having this sore throat every day for the rest of my life.I also have swollen lymph nodes on the left side of my body only,{the same side as the sore throat is on} is this a symptom of the fibromyalgia too?I am also very tired and weak every day now. My body hurts all over too. This is not like me.I dont think you mentioned if you were tired. Also, I was fine for 14 years after the accident. Why now would this show up?Please write me back and tell me all you know about this as I just lost my job, so therefore have no medical insurance right now.It would be nice to talk to you through e mail. Pamela

I Understand!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I live with fibromyalgia, lupus, myofacial syndrome, rsd, peripheral neuropathy, chronic fatigue syndrome, arthritis, full body pain and a few other situations and I have learned that the best way to deal with this is with a few meds and to get up and kick yourself in the butt and keep moving(i know, easier said than done) but if I can do it, anyone can because if you do give into it, it will hit you double! I also have learned to take the "can't" word out of my vocabulary. This stuff to me is like the devil and we don't want to give into him!
Sincerely,
sandy

Letter on the way pamela, hope to speak again soon.
Sandy, I agree, we have to be positive about the situation we are in and I think a list like this is a good start as far as support for each other.
I hope everyones day is better that yesterday.

Hi shane. No I didn't get your letter.I looked for it, but didnt get it.I have just been trying to go about everyday life, in pain.I mowed my lawn by push mower yesterday, took about 1 and a half hours cause its a big yard, and when I was done I was all hot and felt really weak. Then I started feeling as if I had something stuck in my throat right where it was hurting. It was making me gag.I was coughing all night trying to get what ever it was out.It felt like something would start to come up , but go back down again. Also I was gargling with some saltwater last night and noticed that my throat was bleeding inside.I am very worried now. Constant Sore Throat

The feeling of a lump in the throat sounds familiar pam. I have been having that on and off for months, the last few days have been the worst. I have not found blood but I guess if you were coughing a whole heap it is to be expected. I hope my e-mail that I have sent you will help a bit.

Remember if you dont get it today send me an e-mail and I will get back to you that way if I have sent it to the wrong address we will know.

Try not to worry to much, it makes it worse..........Says the man who was worrying about it two days ago!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

You take care,
shane
