When you stop the pill, SOMETIMES you can pregnant right away, SOMETIMES it takes 2-3 months.

DID you know that there are only 3-5 days a month that pregnancy is even POSSIBLE?

You need to buy a fertility monitor so you can learn when you are fertile. You may not even be having sex when you are fertile.

If you are trying to get pregnant, I would monitor yourself. Not necessarily with a monitor that you buy to test ovulation, because those can be expensive, but they work well if you have the money. Try paying attention to your cervical mucous and charting that, along with cervix positions, etc. Do you know how long your period is? If you have a normal 28 day cycle, try conceiving around 14 days after your period starts. Getting pregnant happens sometimes in the blink of an eye for some people, and for others it takes months or even years of trying. If the test says no, and you are 15 days past your period, chances are you aren't pregnant and it is just late. It is true your friend had a case where the test didn't detect her hormones, but majority of the time tests are right. Cases like hers are pretty rare. Good luck trying!
